Ferrari 1-2 Woo Hoo!
Not bad for an old boy ! Senna's record stood for 11 years , super achievement by MS. Massa's looking really quick too, let's hope his relative lack of experience won't hinder him too much.
What page are you guys getting your live feed from? F1live? If they can keep that up for the race ... I might have to wash my Ferrari.
WELCOME BACK TO THE FUTURE! HANDICAPPERS BE DAMNED, FERRARI IS BACK! Good duel between Massa and Schumaker. Great job by Michael to get his 65th pole. Man, it feels good to be able to look forward to a competitive car again. It's a long season, but at least we know Ferrari will be in the mix! What's up Rubens? You looked like more of a threat with Stewart/Ford.
Hold on, we need to see how the car behaves in "race trim" and in traffic. The field is tight. Good start, for sure, but tomorrow will tell more.
This is good news after last years disaster. Massa doesn't seem to hold back at all, so it should make for an interesting season.
I love the new qualifying format: Lots of action and drama, all the teams on the track all the time and the shootout of the top teams doesn't get ruined by adverse weather or by backmarkers. ...and probably five races into the season I might actually understand it.
The thing that is important here is: 1) Once again, we see winter testing times don't mean poo-poo!!!!!!!!!!! 2) Everyone who had a theory that Bernie & Co. changed rules in '05 to slow MS/Ferrari will now have additional ammo.... Massa second just shows how good the car is but let's see in the race. OH YEAHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No you won't !!! Max and Bernie will change it by the 4th race just to confuse us. It's great seeing us back in front. Makes getting up at 5:45 on a non-work day worth it. Regards, JK
I was thinking that weather in S1 or S2 could really mangle the grid. Which, of course, some people think would be a good thing. But it might take a rain of toads to get Aguri up to race times.
Not sure how you come to that conclusion. Ferrari did set some fastest times in some of the winter testing sessions. I'm not so worried about their speed, but more about their reliability. They had lots of engine issues. I'd say wait till the end of the 2nd race with the same engine. Also we have no idea what fuel loads they were running today. I wouldn't bring out the champagne yet. So far so good is my motto. PS: Massa rocks!
Massa looks like he won't take s&*t from anyone; he's driven for lesser teams, now drives for the world's premier racing team, a once in a lifetime oppurtunity and he'll definitely make the most of it. Can't wait to see him and JPM mix it up.... Besides, Massa wants to quash the Rossi rumors.......
It's nice to see the ferrari's up front again. I was just hoping for them to be competitive so this is a nice surprise.
Yes, I'm one of those who enjoyed the lottery qualifying at Melbourne last year. Because it was different and created some sort of reversed grid. But I wouldn't want pure luck defining the grid all the time (Reversed grid btw isn't pure luck). Also the way I understand it: Even if it had started to rain in the last session it would be still fair to the top teams as they all start the last session with a clean slate and the backmarkers are out of the way. So weather could affect one's performance, but much less so than last year.
I'm so happy right now, words can't even describe it. Much thanks to Schumacher for making my (sleepless) weekend, and a huge thumbs up to Massa: Welcome to the Team! I quote Dino 208GT4: FORZA FERRARI!!!
Getting the grid out of sequence becomes more crititical because of the one thing I've hated since the old format was dropped: No more 107% rule. None of these pro-wrestling show (WWF1) qualifying sessions rids the track of rolling road blocks who should be home driving a mini-van to soccer practice. I still like the old open format: everyone out mixing it up. One of the most enjoyable F1 coverage shows I've seen was the '00 USGP qualifying session; with the teams sending cars out to draft each other through T13, and the drivers having a blast. Having the tire maker ask for T13 to be eliminated shows how F1 has become rules over racing.
Look at my past posts. I've always said there are too many variables in winter testing; however some people use winter testing as the final measuring stick when we all know raceday is where the BS actually stops. The important thing is that the Scuderia are competitive-chassis and tires are both good. In one race the 248 already matched the total number of poles won by the F2005. Is that an all-red front row I see? We'll see about engine reliability but at least the chassis is vastly superior to that of the F2005-unless Ferrari's engine is putting out crazy hp which would mask any chassis deficiencies but I doubt that. Both MS and FM looked very smooth. Ferrari could have easily pulled a Toyota and gone backwards... I'm dying to see Massa and JPM mix it up....
