    Hey Guys and Gals,

First post from my new account, have been active on F-Chat for nearly 5 years.

Anyways I am in the market right now for a B6 S4. I am an addict for naturally aspirated, big block, AWD German 4-doors. The 4.2 S4 has always been a dream car of mine and finally I am within reach. I have previously owned a B5 A4 and I loved that car. Audi has always drawn me in.

That being said, does anyone (previous owners or enthusiasts) here have any good experience with the model? I am aggressively searching the market and have a few showings lined up.

    Thanks.

Some (many?) of us aren't familiar with B3, B4, B5, etc. designations. I assume that you're talking about Audis, but I can't tell what years that you're interested in. Can you provide information about the range of years for each model so that we can help?

The B6 chassis was used by Audi from 2002 to 2005 for the A4 and S4 models. The slightly updated B7 chassis was used from 2006 to 2008.

I owned a 2007 S4 Avant from new for 7 years, same 4.2 V8 as used from 2004 in the B6 and B7. Fantastic engine, great sound. Mine was trouble-free for the entire time I owned it.

I'd be careful with the B6.

I have a B7 S4 with a 4.2 but am facing a ~$10k engine rebuild at 160k miles. B6's generally need this service done well before that mileage Mark.

The engines are the same for B6 and B7's but they upgraded some of the timing components along the way so the later engine have way fewer issues than the early B6's.

If you can find one with the engine work already done then go for it. Aside from the engine, B6 and B7's are bulletproof.

B7 S4 Avant 6-spd.; 67K miles, perfect car in every respect, aside from a recurring headlight/electrical issue eventually solved by dealer (far out of warranty too ;-).
Not looking forward to the oft-warned timing chain issues tho.....

Ideally I would love to get into a B6 S4 Avant (I'm in Vancouver) but they are extremely hard to come by. I know I can go A4 Avant quite easily, but honestly I want the extra performance. A B7 isn't necessarily out of the picture, but for some reason I am drawn to the V8 over the SC V6.

    B7 still has the 4.2, the B8 has the 3.0 v-6.

I have no affiliation but there is a seemingly excellent 2004 avant for sale in Massachusetts on autotrader right now.

Not close to Vancouver but a good one is worth the hassle...

Sorry I stand corrected, you're right. I will check it out. Shipping isn't the biggest issue; its more along the lines of finding someone to check it out for me and obviously any automotive requirements by law once it hits the border.
