Autel AP200 no longer produced, new Auto AP200c looks like a step down

OK, so I use my Autel AP200 with my Ferrari all the time to check clutch wear and stuff. Recently I started throwing it in my console for the GT3 just in-case. So now I am jockeying the dongle back and forth between cars. Not optimal. It was cheap enough so I went to Amazon to buy another one... They are no longer available and now there is a new model (AP200c) that appears to offer less functions but doesn't require you to purchase each auto maker separately. That kind of killed a great tool, I didn't mind paying for an extra brand since I have a couple of Porsche vehicles and a Ferrari.

This is all ironic based on a post I made to another thread a few days ago where someone said their Foxwell 520 can't read clutch life and I mentioned my cheap AP200 could. Well I guess I should add if you can find the original one.

So since I may be in the market for another code reader that can read the clutch life and all the ferrari codes/real time data, any recommendations for something a little cheaper than an X431 Pro. I know that is the ultimate for a home repair person, but most of my repairs are done by my mechanic with only minor stuff done by me (i.e. the GT3 had a throttle body failure the other week and it turned out to either be a loose connector or corrosion. I cleaned the connector and made sure it was tight and the problem went away. Without my AP200, I would have had no clue where to begin).

Thanks for any advise here. I did do some searches, but obviously with it being 2022, a thread from 2020 or 2015 may not be valid anymore.

    Thanks,
    Cheers,
    Corey

Yes you can set the pis, and measure clutch positioning and it mathematically calculated thickness etc. It is at best only an estimate in my experience. There are now several versions of the Thinkcar and many brand specific software packages that have more versatility as I understand it. I have a dash issue that i have to go to the dealer with a (Ferrari SD3) to get sorted that the Thinkcar wont clear but it recognizes it. Apparently I had a voltage spike somewhere and it zapped the instrument cluster and now it shows the big amber X and is reading Kilometers and Centigrade on the led square and nothing else. Insturment panel is now set to Europe.

I actually just placed an order (and they took it) for the Autel AP200 from these guys: https://www.obdii365.com/wholesale/autel-maxiap-ap200-obd2-scanner.html

If it doesn't come in, I'll let you know.

    Warm regards,

    Daryl

Thank you Rod for that information. Ive got an appointment with the new Dealer in St. Louis and discussed the issue with them. They have a Ferrari SD3 and they think they can get it converted back with that computer. If unsuccessful, I will remove the instrument panel and send it to Costa Mesa. Thank for the information. Ill report back on that issue.

    HI Corey,
The ap200 vehicle diag report that I ran and saved on my 08 430 shows fault codes etc, but it does not show clutch wear. Is there another report that I am not aware of? Thank you.

Also if your 2008 is like my 2009, the AP200 formula for clutch wear reads zero and you actually have to do the math yourself from the live gearbox data.

(( Clutch Position Closed - Clutch Position Closed from New )/ 5.6) *100 = % wear on clutch

Well, I just noticed they have like 10 MaxiAP AP200 models.... not sure which one is the correct one for a 360...

I switched to the Thinkdiag and have not looked back. Both use my iPhone, but the Thinkdiag offers more functionality, clutch wear still doesn't work on a 2008 and newer car, so you have to do the math by hand.

I am considering adding a Thinkdiag to my glovebox so I don't need to carry the Launch around, but the link higher up in this thread goes to an item which is no longer available. I did find this: https://a.co/d/duyNvdL

Has anyone tried the updated version?

And if I am reading correctly, it is $65/yr to keep activated for ALL brands? Would be nice to use for the rest of the fleet :)

    Thanks
    Aaron

That looks like the thinkdiag one I have. I know I have a multi-year subscription also which expires in 2025

I was about to order the AP200 but see there are a bunch of different versions, which led me to this thread. So is the general consensus these days to go with a thinkdiag2? (Perhaps the one linked on amazon above?)

If it matters, 2008 F430 converted manual so clutch readings it seems will be useless for me.

Basically, if something goes wrong with the car be able to read the codes and then get advice from people on here about what to do. Sadly, a post may be coming soon. Would only use it on my F430, so one car.

I ordered the same one. Very happy with it. I have a 2006 F430 F1 and use it only to read data and reset error codes. @flash32 was very helpful in setting me up with its proper usage. If you mainly care about reading data, it is amazing value for money for ~50 $s.
