    so I'm gonna lay low a little seeing as some people are attacking me. And I see you guys as awesome and hilarious so I hope you do not mind that I hang out here. I was given links in another thread here on aussie slang and I love it. what is your favorite aussie slang words or phrases?

    dead horse = tomato sauce
    get nicked = get caught
    jaffle = toasted sandwich
    Macca's = McDonald's
    peckish = hungry
    sanga = sandwich

    and most importantly... ;)

    I personally prefer:

    ya bastard = you're a good bloke
    bit of a bastard = he's an arsh0le

    replace bastard with favourite derogatory term and it still works. If you're called one, you're not; but if you are called 'a bit of one' you defintely are.

    Aussies are into mateship, cheering for the underdog and a fair go. Pretty grouse actually. Grouse = great.

    And naturally, no Aussie would ever greet with something other than G'day.


    Rhyming slang is also used in several other parts of the world; particularly, in the UK. Hence why it made it here with the bloody convicts.

    Of course the one you really need to know is 'seppo' as in septic tank rhymes with ...
    BUT remember an Aussie actually only sledges (that's 'abuses' to you) his mates. If you really don't like someone, you just ignore them.

    Could be world wide though, as I have heard Goober on many times mention Temporary Afghanis!

    Then again temporary Australians may be the nine located currently in Bali.....
