Well I don't have problem with the sticker because it is a correct representation - made in Australia of imported ingredients - would I buy it? Nope. PEOPLE need to read and understand the hell they're buying and, especially, eating.
So there's the crux of the problem - people like it, people buy it, people eat it, but then people whinge about the foreign products being sold here! I'm guessing Aldi? Foreign supermarket chain...
Jeeses Ian it's NOT just Chinese ingredients - could be from anywhere! Apart from seafood, China isn't a huge foodstuffs exporter. They keep most of their edible stuff for their own people (wow, what a great idea! Why didn't we think of that...)
No, I sent that to PP the other night. Indian family run business in Sydney. They import all the dried spices from India then mix and package them with various curry flavours as a result. Some Indian friends put me onto them and reckon it’s as authentic as you can get. Have used them for years and truly delicious https://www.currymasters.com.au
Oh, so it's just a spice mix... I thought it was a ready made with the lamb shanks etc. Good question this raises - what spices do we grow in Aus???? I know I get my fresh ginger, garlic, lemongrass, coriander etc from the local greengrocer, and curry and bay leaves from a friends garden but mustard seeds, star anise etc I buy in packets (Hoyts is Aussie company but imported product) as I've never found anything better?
That's why I enjoy going to the local Tolga and Yungaburra markets, guaranteed locally grown product.....bit sad we haven't seem 'em for over two months
Maroubra Junction use to have an Indian restaurant that made the BEST butter chicken in the world as far as I was concerned (Khyber Pass) Have NEVER had a butter chicken since that comes close
Yeah I'll let you know how the Butter Chicken tastes...Went with Greg’s recommendation .....I’ll just have to pair it with some good Aussie Vino...Or scotch if this Polar weather carries on....
I think you might need to check your source or at least put it in perspective: https://www.austrade.gov.au/news/economic-analysis/australias-two-way-trade-with-the-world-was-up-11-to-763-billion-in-2017 PS your $1billion equates to $40 per person for every Aussie... I don’t think that’s skewing too many grocery budgets... I think covid showed the wisdom of having 96% of our groceries locally supplied. China has the US by the proverbials since so much of their food is imported...
