Reminds me of one of my swimming buddies (a group of whom are /were champion parachutists in the 60s) who got tangled in a tree on a jump one day and hung up there for ages until they could figure out how to get her down safely. The most galling part for her was the picture of her ‘hung up’ ending up on the front page of the local paper.
Has anyone actually checked Gary’s qualifications? https://www.smh.com.au/world/asia/dubious-qualifications-pakistani-airline-grounds-150-pilots-20200626-p556el.html

Alan Joyce is the sleeziest CEO in existence... and that says something. Only good thing about this is quite a bit is going to be trimmed out of management. Joyce could trim a million off his salary and keep a few people in work...
Watch out Stevie a few people could be gunning for your job. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-07-03/rfds-capitalise-on-commercial-pilot-qantas-virgin-job-losses/12409234
I'm not concerned, Simon. As one of only about a dozen PC-24 qualified pilots in the country a bunch of ex-airline guys and girls aren't any threat to me (having a 737 rating and doing multi-crew flying has no value at RFDS). In our section we have actually re-employed a couple of guys who left to go to the airlines in 2018, and I'm aware of a few other ex-employees going to the other sections. It's nice to be able to help out these pilots in a difficult time and also works well for us as minimal re-training is required. However, the RFDS is smart enough to know that these people are not long term prospects. As soon as the airline flying picks up and jobs become available they will be the first out the door, for the same reasons they left us in the first place (money, money, and money!)
