Thanks to everyone. Glad I'm getting to know you all a little better. At first I just hung around for the awesome cars but I've come to the conclusion the people are better than the cars. Except for jeff. Jeff's a cool dude but his car is the sickest. I've also come to realize that the ferrarichat forum is cooler than the Z06vette forum. Time to get out the credit card. Anyone have server space to host my video once I compress it? The EC exhaust winner, Gene
Hahaha. Maybe I'm not the coolest guy in the world, but my car is blushing. She'll take praise even at my expense. She may be a little quiet but she loves the attention. I did enjoy getting to see your video, and not only because of my car's footage in it (although I'd be lying if I claimed it didn't help!) And besides that you're pretty cool yourself, even if your car is so loud I miss shifts since I can't hear my own engine redlining! And to all - enjoy the last month of summer. The picture below is what I have to put up with the next few weeks, but I look forward to seeing you all again when I'm back.
Of course. I did not say I went out with the family, just was busy with some "stuff" (don't really want to explain) around here.
Wuddup Gene! Your car sounds wicked awesome! I thought Rob's car was silly but you b!tched slapped him into "Is your car running right now..." I hope we get to hear a heads and cam package on that puppy soon. Rob can do the install in his sleep Have you guys ever thought of chipping in for some server space for hosting? I bet there's enough people here that would contribute to make it worthwhile. We could even setup some bandwidth limits so as not to go over out limits each month. Brad, Rob, Gene: Your thoughts... The EC smoke machine Roger (Still the best damn roller coaster ride at the park though!!!)
And who is going to baby sit your car while you are gone? If the ponies don't get exercised regularly, their muscles atrophy.
Good idea with the hosting. I found two hosts that may be of interest. http://www.c-hosting.net/dedicated.htm http://www.ev1servers.net/english/index.asp I figure/hope about a 1000gigs/month should suffice. Rob when you posted that video you were talking about at dinner what was the actual total transfer rate of it? Let's get more opinions and get that **** up so I can start hosting. Also having a server like that will cause more movies to be made. ClydeM, Jeff let me take car of his car. He knows how into the thing I am so he knew he could trust me with it. There will be no atrophy here. Roger, ....yes i had just started me car.
How can we get audio of things like exhausts? Typically it will just break up from distortion. I bet this would sound wicked in a good home theatre. Imagine this: Person plays EC DVD and busts his windows when the exhaust shootout portion comes on
You need an audio engineer, expensive microphones and a lot of gates, compressors and limiters. Basically, what you have to do is bring down the levels before they get recorded and then rely on amplification in post. Poor man's version: You can try to record loud noises like exhaust systems with an old 4" or 6" or 8" speaker: Plug the speaker into the mic-in jack on your camera. Set the speaker about 8' to 10' behind the car and see what you get A speaker is just a microphone in reverse and when you're recording high dBv sounds, the really loud sounds will move the speaker, generate some current in the coil and you've got audio. If you speak into the speaker, it's not gonna record anything because your voice will not be loud enough to move the cone.
I guess we could also setup another MIC far enough away from the source to get general audio. Then we combine them... Hmmm... Homework
