Cheap to buy, mega bucks to fix. Proceed with caution. Many have been wrapped around a tree etc. Cool cars, for sure.

Really ? Any particular reason why ? Not something I would expect from that car wrapping around trees.

It's a really powerful car. Of the few I service, I would say about a 1/4 of them have been involved in some sort of collision. Average repair cost works out to about 10k per claim. One car had a 30k claim against it, which brings the number up. Just have it checked carefully before you buy. Lots of under maintained ones running around out there due to the cost of maintenance. Brakes will set you back about 5k just as an example..

I am curious, what is it about the brakes that makes the service so expensive (I am assuming the cost is for regular steel discs, rather than composites). Is it just pads and disks that are unique to the car? Do the calipers corrode, or wear out more than other cars?

For future reference, I was curious on why a brake job would be so expensive, it turns out the AMG OEM brakes are simply low volume items, and the cost is therefore high, and most AMG owners want their service done at a dealer, so not much demand for aftermarket options. But there is an aftermarket two piece rotor option, reduces unsprung weight alot and the cost is more reasonable, here is the link for a front and rear set.

From my knowledge, anything AMG is higher priced. I learned that when I was researching maintenance costs of G wagons and was advised that parts for the AMG aspect are notably higher than regular parts in the non-AMG model....but I bought the AMG version G wagon anyway.....
