Well I must say that after meeting a former friend in my home town, whom happens to own a new ferrari, I have decided that a lot of ferrari owners are after the image and not the prestige. What I mean is, how many Ferrari owners have the car to 'show off' and to be looked at by all the women. "Look at me, I have a big red shiney 500BHP monster cock. Wanna ride?" This saddens me, because I see the genuine ferrari owners, like the folks on this site for example, who care for the car and not the image. Am I wrong in my statements or am I right? Are Ferrari owners 'Cocks?' . I hope that we (soon to own) do not get tarnished with the BMW owner brush. Thoughts Folks?
Okay...I'll bite. First off...let's do a little review...here's what you wrote in your very first post here: "So - What model would best suit me? I am a proffesional male, work in IT and really would prefer a classic rather than a new model. I was thing what best makes you 'look cool' but affordable? Something like a 308GTB maybe?" Ummm, hello pot...this is the kettle...you're black. I don't understand why you think that owning a Ferrari can't be about the owner and not the car? What is wrong with someone wanting attention? Big deal...move along please. If that's what makes an owner feel good about owning a Ferrari, so be it. Also, who decided that it has to be a mutually exclusive thing anyway? Who even says it comes down to ego satisfaction vs. lineage? There are certainly more than two factors that can weigh in someone deciding to own a Ferrari. Your post is narrow minded, judgemental thinking at its best...not to mention hypocritical as well. For a person to even start a thread like this shows that instead of wanting to own a 500BHP cock, they'd rather be one.
As a Ferrari owner, I take it upon myself to work overtime to try to disspell the stereotype. I make it a point to wave to gawkers, thank people and give the thumbs up to people driving cars that indicate they have made a lot of effort.
Not sure what the point is here. I like cars. I like driving my Ferrari. I like when people notice it, or I wouldn't bother detailing it, parking carefully, etc. I think it's the best-looking car in my zip code. I go out of my way to answer questions about it; When people ask, I tell them it costs about what a new Lexus or Boxster S might. Every street Ferrari was made to show off, to some extent and -- generally -- women don't care. So again, what's the point?
If you want a chick magnet, get a big honkin' SUV like an Escalade. No professional women I know like small, loud, smelly sports cars. In fact they think you're an immature jerk to own one (they might be right in my case!) The bimbos might be impressed by a Ferrari, but for them you don't need the car to begin with! Just spend money on them and you're fine. I will say however, if you're into 14 year old boys, a vintage exotic attracts them like flies to dead things. Ken
If you want to pick up girls S2000 does wonders and so do Escalades/Range Rovers/etc. People who buy Ferrari's for image solely I don't understand, I've met all kinds of Ferrari owners, there isn't really an "average". You have the guy who bought the car just to show off, the guy who is a true enthusiast, the guy who loves wrenching on his own car, the guy who is just way too obsessed with Ferrari (you know who I'm talking about, the guy with the Ferrari socks), etc. I don't think it's right to stereotype Ferrari owners as one group of people, after dealing with them on a daily basis, they're just like any other group of people, each person is different.
First off I wanted to say that I hate steriotypes. All of the Ferrari owners I have meet have been very nice people to where they let me sit inside of there cars and take picks. Another thing is they have a much better attitude than Oh say Corvette owners where they think they own god's gift to the road and most are complete jerks. Another thing about ferrari owners or any exotic car owners is that they are true car guys/gals, they have a passion for this hole scene and heritage. So far I haven't meet any Ferrari owners that are jerks or any exotic car owner at that but it saddens me to see someone with a Corvette or a Honda civic be a complete *********, the moment I walk up to them they normally ask me with an bad attitude "What the hell do you want" and such and you would think that most of these guys would except someone comming to up to there car to admire it would have a better attitude but they normally don't. As soon as I mention something such as a Lambo or ferrari they right away say "My car would beat that POS and I paid less for it to so haha" or "they need that car because they have a small cock" and its like WTF?. So thats just a small exsample of what I have experianced.
You're right. And I don't see Ferrari owners keying Chevys because we don't like what they stand for.
All of the responses to this have said it well in different ways, and have captured the essence of Ferrari ownership for many. Ownership doesn't have to mean anything to anyone but the owner, and each owner has his own reasons. Few owners that I have encountered are compensating for anything, they simply love this particular car. Period. And if your concern is "cool but affordable", stay away from Ferrari's-the maintainance on even the most affordable (oxymoron) will eat you alive. Few people on this planet even know (or care) what a Ferrari is, and you damn sure won't pick up any "chicks" with it. As others have stated, women are into BIG, FLASHY SUV's right now with lots of chrome that scream I have lots of money to throw around (but not necessarily a whole lot of good taste)!!!
Ha! If youre going to buy a Ferrari to pick up chicks, youll find yourself out a lot of money and still have an empty passenger seat. My car seems to attract mostly high school/college age guys, and I know they aint looking at me because Im too old and ugly! Then again, maybe thats why the chicks arent looking either! Ask me if I care! Of course, if You are looking for high school/college age guys, youll be in hog heaven.
Forget about a ferrari... Girls can't resist this... http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=135700067&postcount=46
I bought my Ferrari simply to impress "ME". No one else! I am 46, but have Lusted after a 308 since I first saw one back in 1976, (I was 16) when they first came out. I've had several very cool American Muscle Cars, to impress "ME", with their Style and Performance. I've owned 7 Corvettes to impress "ME", again, with their style, that I have loved since I saw my first laid eyes on one at age 9 (1969) and always wanted one. And their performance. I also had a little Black Porsche, again, to impress "ME" with it's Cool looking style. And, I finally realized my dream of getting that long sought after 308 almost 6 years ago to impress "ME". I have since added a second Ferrari, and hopefully, more to come....ALL to impress "ME". Yeah, the car gets alot of attention. Both good, by people who also love and "appreciate" cars. And bad, by jealous "piss ants" who don't like it when their Girlfriends go "Oooooo! Look at THAT!" All that I can say to them... Get a decent job, work very hard, and get the car the impresess YOU! (and maybe your Girlfriend, too... )
When I got my first BMW in the late 60s, BMWs were looked down on as strange little boxes and the owners were thought to be anything but "cool" . It was an enthusiast's car, not a status symbol.
Having a Ferrari rarely attracts women. I have met far more girls driving a beat up 66 mustang than I have in a Ferrari My personal view is that most Ferrari owners I know would still drive the car even if they were the only person left on the planet. I drive mine because I love it, not because I give a damn about what the guy next to me thinks. BTW, speaking of image... it's "who happens to own".. not "whom". You should be in the nominative case, not the objective one, as far as the above usage goes. Ray
cute dog, simon yes, it's a chick magnet, i was walking my friends "puggle" and had about 3 girls come up and talk to me, managed one number out of the deal,
(Nomex suit on) Frankly, judging by the folks i have met at various meets who ARE NOT Fchatters, a lot are posers. It is about image and when i ask about vehicle dynamics or very basic (to me) driving questions they are clueless. Yeah, they like the image, enjoy the polo club, feel self important at the golf course, and never track their car or drive in the rain lest the car get a small scratch or nick in it. Enzo must be rolling in his grave.
So are other beautiful women. In my previous life I had a good friend who made it to the final 5 in Miss America. She was married, but her husband travelled a lot (idiot), and she liked to go out. We would go to bars and clubs,... and I could talk to women that wouldn't have given me the time of day if I had been with my guy friends.
Thats too funny. I will attest to this as well. Ferraris are nice, but my wife will tell you that Yorkies rule.
