I'm in need of a new seal for the shaft of my Aspera A/C compressor. I've tried a York seal but the overall height is too short. I've been given an International Harvester part number (592263C92)and a Freightliner seal number (ABP N83 305562T)from a guy at CCI . Does anyone out there have a seal part number? I have looked in the archives.
    Thanks, Walt

I've used a seal kit from NAPA which appears to contain the correct seal. Part number 207242. Hope this is of help.

Thanks Scott, I'll give them a call tomorrow. Freightliner had the CCI seal but I haven't had time to see if it fits yet.

I put the CCI seal I got at the local Freightliner parts depot, vacuumed the system down and charged it with 215 psi of nitrogen last night. This morning it was still holding pressure.

Walt- sounds good. My A/C blew a seal and blew oil all over the belt- so I cut it off. I'm thinking of just replacing the entire compressor, but if a seal will fix it for a while- that would be "cool".

Is there only one seal to replace?

Also- do you have any photos of the proceedure? I assume the compressor needs to come out of the car?

Your compressor looks like the attached photo?

Thanks in advance for any help.

That looks like my compressor. The jury is still out on the seal replacement. I'll let you know how it goes if it holds the nitrogen. Then I'll vacuum it, recharge it with nitrogen then repeat one miore time before I add the R-12. The real test in my book will be when I get the R-12 in and use the A/C for several weeks. Only then will I feel that the seal replacement was the way to go. A replacement compressor isn't very expensive. There is only 1 seal.
The compressor has to come out to work on it easily. When the seal went the oil went on the front header, I thought the cam/valve cover gasket started leaking. That would have been a much easier fix.
BTW: I'm doing everything to stay away from 134A. I just don't like it.

    JWise,
Yes, you have the Aspira compressor.

Go to the F*talk site, Carl Rose's A/C compressor rebuild thread is pretty comprehensive. He rebuilt a real York, but the Aspera is a york knock-off, diffrences are trivial.

    WaltP,
The vacuum test will tell the story. I've never had a leak in an A/C system that held a vacuum.

Verell, I'm holding on the vacuum test until the weekend.

    WaltP,
The literature for the York style compressors indicates that the seals normally loose a small amount of coolant/year (think it was O(0.5 to 1.0) oz/year. If you've got an extremely sensitive electronic vacuum gauge, it may detect air infusion at a very slow rate for the same reason. Shouldn't be able to see any movement of a std A/C low side gauge tho.

Actually Verell, it was the original Aspera in that thread. I've emailed Walt off-line, and I certainly hope it works for him, but my seal replacement only last about 6 months before leaking again. But I'm not sure what a rebuilder would do otherwise. JWise, if you need, I can mail you a CD-ROM with this procedure on it. If you replace the original with a the York you'll need two standard-thread bolts for the lower brace (Aspera uses metric threads here).

And I've posted this before, but who rebuilds Aspera compressors? I contacted a gentleman down in Houston who wasn't quite friendly, looking for other references?

    Take care,

    :) Carl

Who did you contact Carl? I did not rebuild mine, but a guy I know here could do it. You'd just need to explain to him that it's a license built York.

I replaced mine with a Sandan Rotorary.

FWIW: This is the fellow I've been dealing with at CCI and this morning he emailed me that there isn't a rebuild kit available for our compressors that CCI can provide.
