You must be Matt F over on atom club. You really had the Brits going when you suggested that the MIG welding of the US frames was better than the brazing of the Euro chasis. Good luck with your Atom.
Guess I had'nt realized he beat it by 4 SECONDS! OUCH. Heavier bikes? Yes, but MUCH more powerfull as well. For example, I thing the R6 wieghs only 16lb.s less than the R1, (don't quote me here, but I think I'm right), the R1 makes 186HP! How much does the R6 make, 120? The R1 is a MUCH FASTER Bike. I've ridden the R6. My R1 smokes it massively. I'd assume the same for any litre bike, (given equal rider skills of course).
By the looks of the video even the 600 killed it on the straight, but at the first corner the Atom shot by under braking. In my opinion the bikes would be so far behind in braking and cornering that no amount of power is going to make up for it. I'm a Viper guy, so this cornering and braking is all new to me so that's just my 2 rupes.
they are street legal in america. you should get one and bring it by crystal cove for everyone to drool over
I'm pretty sure they will be street legal, the same way the Noble M12 is street legal; it is imported without engine and drivetrain.
Wear protective eyewear EVERYWHERE. Any small pebble from a car can get kicked up, and even at 30 mph you'll be blinded. Bugs are also a huge issue. Even much higher up on a motorcycle this is a big problem, I can't imagine how much more stuff you'll encounter down there.
Has someone hacked the Atom USA website ? I went back for another look and it seems to be a software vendor site. http://www.arielatom.com/ good review http://www.automotivearticles.com/123/Ariel_Atom_USA.shtml
Congratulations! What options did you choose? Is delivery still approximately 120 days after you place your order?
Update: This is now pretty much out in the open, so I fell OK posting it - Brammo has returned from the GM proving grounds, where they tested an Atom using a 245hp Ecotec motor. 0-60 came in 2.81 seconds, besting the 300hp Honda-powered Atom's time of 2.9 seconds. I was so impressed that I switched my order from the 300hp Honda to the Ecotec (and saved a few thousand in the process). I can only imagine what the 300hp Ecotec will achieve when they get it sorted! http://www.autoblog.com/2005/12/30/u-s-version-of-ariel-atom-using-ecotecs/ WHOO-HOO!!!!
Unless you choose every bit of carbon fiber available -- and $4,000 magnesium wheels -- it doesn't come anywhere near that much!
$37K with a naturally aspriated Ecotec, subtrace $750 for the Honda powerplant. Not near the 84K you are suspecting.
Even with a few decent options you're in the mid-high 50s. Powerplant isn't the only decision to make. --Dan
Yeah, it isn't cheap. If you go with CF parts and tub, you're spending $6000 alone. I was hoping for a mid-40's price tag, fully optioned. But it's cheaper than a Lite Car Company Rocket, and <gasp!> slightly more practical. But only slightly . . . ;^)
I guess it's the next step after an elise. I just can't help but wonder if you couldn't build something to this level. Nice ot have a sorted out package, though. T: did you order the aero kit? --Dan
I got an email from atom stating just this the other day...I think that it is on my laptop I will check when I get home and post it if I still have it.
how much do those lotus/caterham/westfields 7 replicas cost compared to the atom, and how do they match up on a track i wonder
As a track car, I'd be hard pressed to choose between this and the Radical. I believe the Radical still has a slight edge on most tracks though. For the street, give me a Noble.
