I have a terrible temptation each evening to munch. But I can't keep eating everything in sight because my weight is slowly-but-surel inching upwards.

The last few nights, I've been eating pork rinds (skins). Delicious, no carbs or calories to speak of. But I did notice some cholesterol. It's too good to be true that the pork skins are just "neutral" to your body. Are they good or bad for you?

Although low in carbohydrates, this snack is still high in calories and loaded with fat. A serving of pork rinds contains the same amount of fat as 4 teaspoons of lard and similar amounts of cholesterol as two slices of bologna, as well as about one-third teaspoon of salt. For equal calories, you could have two medium apples or six medium carrots — and not get the fat, cholesterol and salt.....Ya, pig out my friend, we will bury you later!

With that much cholesterol, your arteries will be clogged in no time.

Listen to Peter. He has motivated me to lose weight, and is a smart guy in general. :)

It may be, but you may still keel over from a heart attack or get cancer from all that nasty stuff. Hey, but at least you'll be thin! ;)

Personally, I find pork skins to be utterly detestible. Even getting them for free in college (drove a Frito Lay deliver truck) I could not bring myself to get accustomed to the taste. Nacho Doritos? Ate bag after bag..still do!

i don't know who rose kennedy is, but i'm a firm believer that there's very little that's "bad" for you, if you're not consuming too much of it.

back in my early 20's i was the vision of Buffman, and for maintenance i didn't stick to any diets, it was just a matter of not eating stuff (or drinking alcohol/fizzy drink) within 4 or 5 hours of going to bed. that, and some very basic exercise for keeping toned, and doing a few weights or more strenuous stuff for building/keeping muscle.

over the last few years i've porked out some (think 24kg) due to a lot of social stuff like getting drunk 4 or 5 times a week and finishing the evening with a yiros or a steak, and girlfriends always insisting on dinner, where it's nigh on impossible to order something small, and i don't have the will to NOT eat what's on my plate. :)

now i've turned 28 over the last month or so i've been making an effort to get back to Buffland... or at least Trimland, and though it's hard initially to deny yourself those late-night snacks and big evening meals, after a couple weeks you start waking up a lot more spritely, and the thought of some exercise starts to almost be something you want to do. almost. but, once you start doing some exercise and seeing results, it sort of snowballs.

personally, my current regime includes eating/drinking whatever the heck i want up to say 4pm, then perhaps a small snack later. with no counting calories or carbs or any of that crap, i've dropped almost enough to get back into a wifebeater for summer. :D

    i lurrrrrrve pork rinds. mmmmmm.

Aren't pork rinds just fried pork fat?

Just drink a glass of red wine with the pork rinds to counteract the artery clogging effects of ingesting deep fried fat strips of swine blubber.

If anyone ever has the chance to actually go to a manufacturing facility for Frito Lay or some other snack food manufacturer, try the products when they are really fresh, as in still warm. Bugles or Doritos just a few minutes old are absolutely incredible. You would be ruined for anything that ever comes out of a box or bag again.
