ok, so some silly people can't be reasoned with so please tick the "right" box do you see more sightings of Ferraris today than say you did even 5 years ago ?
Anyway, that's not an accurate assessment of rarity. You would need another poll asking the same question about Corollas, Commodores, Pulsars etc. And then ask a clarifying question about the respondant's idea of what rarity is. Also it's a leading question which suggests the answer is that the respondant does see more Ferraris today tha 5 years ago. A more balanced and accurate poll would be: "Relative to the total number of cars you see on the road each week, do you think that the percentage of Ferraris on Australian roads today compared to 5 years ago is: a) Much lower b) Lower c) About the same d) Higher e) Much Higher"
Just up the road from me there is a guy who owns a 430 spider and he generally fangs it around at least once a week.Other than that there are regular 360,355 sightings past my house at least once if not twice a week, usually on the weekends.I see the occasional Mondial and 328 and sometimes Fioranotestpilot in his 348 but I rarely see any Testarossa's on the road.Dont see many Dino's and I think I have only ever seen one other GT4 driving around and that was Ants.I see them at workshops and on concourse days but not many driving around.Yesterday I was working in Atarmon near Italia Motori and saw a 430 and 599.Also went to Shannons where they have that GT4.I had a close look at it.I dont think PP would accept all the oil leaks it had
rare1 /rɛər/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[rair] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation adjective, rar·er, rar·est. 1. coming or occurring far apart in time; unusual; uncommon: 2. thinly distributed over an area; few and widely separated: i'm sure luke will argue, but by that definition, ferraris are becoming less and less rare.....well...what do you know?? ya mean the more there is of something, the less rare it becomes?? who'd a thunk it????
hey, it's my poll and I'll rig it anyway I want ............. at least there are equal number of yes' and no's
I already used the same definition in the spotters thread. "thinly distributed over an area" - so even if there are 3000 Ferraris, spread that over Australia, even accounting for concentrations in Sydney/Melbourne/Perth etc and they'll become "thinly distributed" = rare. PP, you've changed your argument and now agree with me. Maybe Ferraris becoming less rare, but they're are still rare because there are more and more other cars too.
i dont officially live in the area, but i spend most of my time in one said area. mainly the same ferrari i see all the time though. but hanging around trendy places puts them infront of you all the time...
the "other" cars have nothing to do with it, if I stand on a corner for a week when there were only a 1000 Ferrari in Australia and I saw 1 Ferrari that week, but today with 3000 Ferraris in Australia when I stand on that same corner for a week I will see 3 Ferraris .... of course I'd only see 2 because Q and I would have pissed off for a coffee when the third one turned up PP would have seen 20 because all the owners are in Toorak
Defenetly not rare, I will use Ash's theory five years ago I hardly saw any maybe one or two in a blue moon now days I see them often, especially 360s they are everywhere. If you see something 20+ times a year how can it be rare?
i told you from the start that no counting %ages ,there are simply more ferrari around that in the past... i never use to see them living around, now i see then a lot. so you if want to how something scarce, but veyron
hahaha just noticed Giovanni is admitting to getting old although his maths is excelelnt as was found out at last year's FNR in Tassie
with 18,000 360s and 25,000 430s and the numbers going up. They are more rare than a Dodge Neon.....but i think the days are numbered at this rate.
Does anyone have figures or links to the actual amount of cars registered on the road currently and going back a few years? I think a more nonsubjective analysis to determine ferrari rarity in Oz would be to take the current registered population size of all vehicles on the road, then find the number and percentage of ferraris registered within that population. Then do the same with previous years figures and compare. The figures would give an indication of the ratio of ferraris and rarity compared to other cars but i dont know if that will satisfy the quest to know if something is more 'rare' as per the definition and in terms of subjective visual sightings, I think its a stupid question if thats what your trying to find out, due to the fact each year the total Ferrari population never remains static or declines, as Ferrari sells new cars for every year that passes and older ones arent taken off the road in large numbers due to the prestige nature of the marque. Thus the population of Ferraris can realy only ever grow and naturally you will see more Ferrari cars on the road hence they become less rare in that sense. But as to relative rarity between other car car marques i have a suspicion that Ferrari actually may have gotten more rarer due to the large amount of bland econoboxes from other more common marques on the road, as the motoring media in the last few years keep harping on about how each year new car sales edge closer to the one million mark. Also another factor running in my head about seeing more ferraris on the road could perhaps be the economic prosperity in the last 10 years, as there more 'middle class' people who are cashed up with disposible income hence its being spent on flash cars to be 'seen' in. Im only speculating as it was before mytime, but perhaps back in the earlier (old ) days ferraris were mainly garaged up by the old money rich hence they wernt seen on the roads regularly, therefore the change in ownership demographic mite be a reason why more are commonly seen. Which another point too perhaps is the fact that newer ferraris are very well built and more reliable compared to pre 90's cars thus they are used a lot more often and perhaps even as daily drivers and is why people have commented on seeing a lot more 360's and 430s around. excuse the spelling as its 4am and i need sleep
