Wow im pissed! Called a local dealer here that has a spider and asked if they were going to be open till five today, as ive gone by their previous location and they werent always open when they said they were( and bear in mind nowhere on their website did it say by appt only) and I was told "well what do you want to look at?" I informed hime the 458 spider they had, and was informed "we dont really have a showroom", and then " are you you a buyer for the 458?" and I said maybe but probably not right now, I was then informed that "we dont really show the car unless youre a buyer"
What? Even the snobbiest Ferrari dealer will let you look at their demo, and even drive it! Wow nice classy establishment. I know where I wont be going when I decide to buy, the dallas mclaren dealer even offered to pick me up at the airport! So pissed.
    End Rant.
Edit: I should be clear this is NOT a FNA dealer, the car has 500 miles or so and is about 50k over sticker.

I have never seen that. I am sure they get alot of people and kids that want to drive the car or sit in it. They have become good at thinning the line only to people who want or can buy what is an expensive car.

When I bought my 458 they were almost impossible to find. The dealer at that time was only getting 3 new cars for the full year.

I use Orlando Ferrari and I have found the salesman and the service people to be wonderful.

But having said that anyone can have a bad day. I collect cars and I have never really had a problem with any dealership. It is in their best interest to be pleasant which is what most do. The few times I thought I was having a problem it was mostly in my head.

    Good luck in the future

I don't know; if I was in the dealers' shoes I'd maybe reply the same if the answer to the question ''are you interested in buying a 458?'' is ''not right now''. They probably get half a dozen calls like that every day, some pretending to be buyers but in reality not much more than tire kickers.

If they don't really have a showroom I wouldn't be surprised if they had some of their stock in another location making their statement even more 'normal'. Why go through some trouble for someone who is not a buyer as of yet?

This has not been typical of my experience with Ferrari dealers. IMO, the person on the phone should not be "weeding out" buyers vs. lookers. As a potential buyer, this would be a turn off.

You found an aberration rather than the rule. Don't let this solitary experience deprive you of what you deserve.

Does not sound like you are a buyer. The Spiders are in strong demand and I am not surprised they validated your timing and seriousness. Keep in mind they are probably making appointments with buyers who state "I am ready to buy now" and mean it.

Try it even with an appointment. I had to phone from outside the door to get someone to leave their desk, walkover and let me in - I was expected. Still once inside I was made to feel welcome. :)

While I understand there are many teenagers that may want to sit in or drive a Ferrari, it is up to the dealer to be skilled and polished in the way they deal with inquiries... It is not that difficult to screen the legitimate inquiries from the joy ride seekers! This dealer is NOT very good, it looks like. My local Ferrari dealer would never do this! I started visting their showroom years before I bought a car from them and they encouraged me to visit as often as I pleased!

Exactly my point, and had they treated you rudely on your first visit what are the odds you ever would have returned?

I drooled at many Ferrari dealers (>10 years) before purchasing. My drool was always welcomed.

Let me guess "Straight Line Automotive Group". I bought a 09 SL65 from them. Not a fun experience. Customer no service. My local Ferrari dealer is excellent.

It's amazing to me sometimes that everyone thinks the world owes them something simply for breathing.

When you're serious, they'll be serious. It's business, not a side show carnival ride for your amusement.

Here's what you should have done:

Emailed them and ask for an appointment.

    Go to the appointment.

Be serious about why you're there. I've dealt with several and never been treated rudely. Then again, I was serious.

Otherwise go buy a Mac. They need all the sales they can get and will probably shine your shoes while you use their bathroom. Number 3 has to try harder than number 2 who has to try harder than number 1. Then again, be prepared for resale values somewhere near Buicks.

    Mayor.....welcome back.

I will be a bit more supportive of the OP. He should be able to stop by a dealer, I'd be certain they are an approved factory dealer, to just look (not drive) at their inventory. Miles on Fcars is a big deal and they don't want everyone putting miles and wear on their cars but looking and drooling should always be encouraged. I'd try another dealer if I were you.

Im really surprised at some of the attitudes here, I dont expect anything but to be treated decently when
talking to someone on the phone. So now im the jerk? Incredible. Had he said nicely the things I posted trust me I would not have been nearly as pissed off, they were said in a very condescending manner.

Don't know what you do, but have you ever just had a bad day and maybe said some things you would like to take back? I'm not saying you are jerk, just a little immature. The salesperson handled it badly - chill out.

That doesn't make it ok. I get the fact that there are a lot of tire kickers but they should at least treat potential customers with a little courtesy until they can determine their intentions. Not sure what business your in but if I'm rude to my customers then I just lose them to a competitor. I haven't had a bad experience at a dealership but if I did then I'm certain I'd never buy a car from them.

We have tons of choices when we make purchases. I assure you that if that person on the other end of the phones paycheck was determined by the amount of customers then she/he would be a lot nicer.

I looked through the window for years I don't walk in until I'm ready to buy and before I do, There is not a question I can ask on any matter that I don't already know.Ferrari isn't the kind of car that you expect them to drop everything for a maybe.I think he asked you a simple question (Are you ready to buy?).I know my dealer has most of the cars 10 miles away at the service department and he is asked by 20 people a day to see a 458 spider.I'm sure his 1st question to anyone would be are you ready to buy,If not. He's not bringing the car.

I think you should always be nice. I looked at Ferraris for 20 years before I could afford to buy one. Then the day came. The local salesman who was always nice to me has sold me 4 so far.
