The mini-forum of the Ferrari Club 400 is being retired.

In order to protect the information contained in this mini-forum, we are planning to translate the archived content of each subject to English and to post to Ferrarichat in the forum 365 GT4 2+2/400/412, along with the original version in French.

Here is an example of what we propose (for a subject on the Tension Chain Tension Adjuster). Apologies in advance for incorrect English you will certainly find in there.

We would like to know your thoughts on the format (PDF attachment for the original and the translation) and on the content of course.

Concerning the content of this particular subject, a summary of the main points is as follows:

1- The knocking of the chain (when the tension is not correct) can be noticed/heard at low RPM and/or with engine at low temperature.

2- It is possible (not easy however) to maintain the chain tensioner without taking the engine out (see post # 14)

3- The sprockets used in the Timing Chain are the same across all models except the 2 "middle" sprockets, for 400 and 412 these two are 21 tooth (part number 109936), for the 365 GT4 2+2, they are bigger sprockets, probably 22 tooth (part number 100207), I realised it the hard way by having to take the engine out a second time (see post # 10) on a 365 GT4 2+2.

4- Some instructions in the English version of the WSM are misleading: the explanation is given in the post # 17

    Good day Jean-Michel,

I also think this is a great idea. I would suggest that the Subject line start with a common prefix... and then whatever the task, procedure, etc. Using your example, perhaps the subject line could be "HowTo - Tension Chain Tension Adjuster" (the prefix does not need to be "HowTo", as I only used it as an example). Using a common prefix will make it easy for people to search for a procedure, etc as opposed to general info about something. This is why I use the same general formal when I find and post information on a particular car... It makes it easy to find info on a particular car by simply searching via chassis number.

    Cheers,

    Sam

    I repeat....Great idea !
That is exactly what this forum is for.
Second suggestion...I already have a few threads with the title "How To......XXXXXXXX", to search for "How To" would gather all of these, yours, and any future new threads.

    Thanks for your comments!

The original organisation of this mini forum has the following chapters:

    My 365/400/412 - introducing one's car - (27 subjects)
The Market 365/400/412 - cars for sale mostly - (18 subjects)
    Specialised Professionals (5 subjects)
Maintenance/Restoration - the Timing Chain Tension Adjuster subject is part of this chapter - (77 subjects)
Parts /buying or selling (28 subjects)
    Pictures (6 subjects)
    Videos (5 subjects)
    Rallies past (1 subject)
    Rallies to come (11 subjects)
    Projects (1 subject)
Documentation /books and magazines (5 subjects)
Old pictures and stories (4 subjects)
Production data and differences between models (5 subjects)
    Original colors (26 subjects)
    Special models (1 subject)
    Other items (10 subjects)

I am thinking to merge the chapters with 11 or less subjects into one thread title format and the 5 others into separate thread title format (using existing thread title formats such as "How To" for the Maintenance/Restoration part and also using existing threads on the same subject).

Do not hesitate to let me know what you think.

Thanks Jean Michel, just list here the subject you would want to migrate here, and I will try to assist you in this task.
