Can't get hold of pirelli's so am thinking of getting bridgestones for teh first time. Anyone tried out the S001 tyres?
I have tried: Pirelli P-Zero Bridgestone S001 Bridgestone RE050 Kuhmo KU31 Falken 452 About to try Michelin Pilot Sport 2's Falken's are OK but a bit soft. Pirelli's were OK but poor value for money. Both Bridgestones were good in terms of grip, wear and price. Favourite so far have been the KU31's which were slightly cheaper than the Bridgestones, gripped slightly better (based on constant radius corner speed at airfield day) and wore abut the same. So yeah, I quite like the S001's. Looking forward to the Michelins as they get v good reviews. Also fancy trying some Goodyear Eagle F1's at some point, as well as the new Kuhmo KU39's if I can ever find some in the right size. All just my 2c worth.
As an aside, the RE050's had rubbish rim protection, whereas the S001's were far better. The sidewally seems far squarer (similar to the KU31) versus the RE050 which always looked slightly stretched for the same size and profile tyre.
Sadly Pirelli were saying at autosport they were concentrating on larger sized top end tyres now. But even then tyres seem impossible to get at times. they are meant to have a new p zero silver out soon, based they say on their f1 experience. although not sure how based. and no info re when exactly and what sizes, so not a lot of help for those needing at moment. toyos can work quite well.
Thanks mate. PS. Springs will be at my house tomorrow morning. Thanks for the offer Andrew. Already ordered the 001's.
I put Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetrics on back in 2009 and I have no complaints. I have put 11,000 miles on them and they still have 4/32 of tread left on the rears.
I have used Goodyear F1, won't buy again. Wet use is good though and the wear rate is quite good. On the dry it is average and is q comfortable but not v sporty if you get my meaning. I am looking for a set of rears too.
Have you considered Continental Extreme Contact DW....? I expected poor performance given the price. I have been pleasantly surprised. I can stick the turn and tear down an entrance ramp while my buddy in his vette is sliding around the corner on his F1's trying to keep it out of the weeds. Mind you, I do not track the car....
Bridgestones I have tried were ok, a bit heavy and they had greater rolling resistance than other tires, like Pirellis and Michelins.
I have RE11 Bridgestones and they are great. We have a Ferrari and why are you worrying about how many miles the tyres will go? These cars are made to drive, you should worry about how they perform.
Just ordered a set. They had pretty good reviews and Tire Rack had a great price so I thought I'd give them a shot. Stay tuned....
Not got round to doing anything but need new set soon. Wembley tyres quoted 265/40 18 £225 for PZero Assimetrico and £270 for Michelin Pilot supersports which I gather is supposed to be the best. Any views?
Ive had both the Bridgestones and the Micheline. Both are great tires but the Michelins are the best tire you can put on the 355 no matter what the price plus they have a nice square sidewall that makes the car look even better. Go with 295 rear and 245 on the front.
--------------- I only need rears at the moment. How does such sizes change the characteristics of the car?
I've had Goodyear F1's on my Porsche, rear tires separated the tread from the sdewall with less than 4K miles on them! There were sidewalls on the rim and nothing else on the right rear, and the left tread was just about to completely separate! I took them back to America's Tires for warranty, and was told they were 2 years old and that they were no longer covered due to AGE!! Needless to say, that is the last set of Goodyears I will ever buy, and I won't go back to America's Tires if I get a flat in their parking lot!! I've been very very happy with all Michelins, wear, comfort and performance, and I'm happy with the Bridgestone Expedia's on the Ferrari now, although I can't speak about the wear on them yet.
Sorry but you cant replace the rears or fronts on these cars with a different tire nor should you replace the front or back pairs if the others are not almost new. These things will upset the balance of the car. The sizes I mentioned are amazing for the handling of the 355. 245-40 front 295-35 rears in Michelin. You might have to play with the ride height to get the max out of it. Certain tires suit different cars. The goodyear F1 suites the 3x8 Ferraris and Corvettes but not the 355.
The NEW Hankook Ventus R-S3 tires (Extreme Performance Summer) are the best for street and track......treadware is 140....sticky and quiet. Tire Rack sells them.....a set matching the original recommended size for a 355 B or s is about $950 plus shipping and a little tax. They out perform the Michelin line. Best to all, Tim TGRestorations.com

I have DW's on my BMW 540 and burned through the rears in about 14k miles. I found the steering precision a bit sloppy (slow responding)...I think it may be because the sidewalls are a bit softer...which gives them such a nice, quiet and comfortable ride. Traction and grip is terrific...but the fast wear and steering issue kind of turned me off. I went with Michelin Pilot Super Sports recently to replace my old Goodyear F1 GSD3s on the 355...so far so good, but haven't put many miles on them, so no firm opinions yet. The F1 GSD3 were a wonderful tire, with excellent wet and dry grip, good steering precision and work like iron. Only problem was they don't make them anymore...haven't hear much postive feedback on the newer Goodyear F1s...
What sizes om the michelin super sports. It would be interesting vs the p zero. Also wondering if the the XL makes any difference.
