I know this is a Ferrari Forum and the bias is real, but I have not see or read a report from anyone who has actually owned or driven an 812 and a AMG GT... Similar pricing right now and I'd be curious as to what owners think

Don't flame me here, I just think as both cars are so similar, there is not need to own both, or is there?

And I mean the AMG GT Black Series, not the 4 door coupe

i own an F12 and an older 2016 AMG GTS. slightly similar cars but the biggest difference wasn't necessarily performance heck my Tesla is just as fast in a straight line. even though you're in the top of the line exclusive Mercedes black series it doesn't feel as special as a non limited Ferrari. that's just the way the brands are. it probably has to do with so many Mercedes vehicles on the road which makes it less special than Ferrari where even people seeing the lowly California still stop and gawk.

I have an 812 GTS and an AMG GT Black Series. Truth is I like both cars. The 812 was my first specced/ordered Ferrari and I will never sell.
I have referred to the 812 as a monster, brutal acceleration and the sound is amazing ! I bought a low mileage Black Series this spring. I love the look. I hate how it sounds but its looks compensate for that. I was/am very surprised that it feels faster. I guess that is the aero at work. Straight acceleration feels as fast or faster. Can't wait for spring to bring to the track !
If I had to choose one it would be the GTS all the way...the sound is incredible!

Thanks for weighing in ACW. So, both brutally fast, how about brakes, driving position, cost of ownership etc? I am torn as to which one... I do plan to drive each this spring, but was just curious as to what owners think

And, arn't there exhausts for the AMG? I'd think someone makes one to bring the true sound out?

I own an 812 GTS and owned both an AMG GTR and a GT Black Series.

Other than a big front end that lends itself to door apexing the Black Series is nothing like an 812. The 812 is one of the best grand tourers ever made, the Black Series is one of the best track focused street cars ever made with lap times to prove it. In the former you can drive for hours on end in relative comfort and ridiculous performance, the GT Black Series is the closet thing I have ever driven to a race car on the street and your back and rest of your senses will let you know as much pretty quickly. They are both epic cars, it just depends which experience you want, but they are diametrically opposed.

The GTR and GTC are a better analogue to the 812, and those are a great value these days. They handle great, they sound amazing, they look beautiful, and I'd buy one in a heartbeat before a used 911 cab. I think the sweet spot of the GT series is the GTC cab. It's 9/10ths of the performance of the GTR with more elegant styling and an open top.

Thanks Sole. For us, its been primarily race cars with plates ono them but "She Who Must Be Obeyed" is chirping about wanting at least 1 car that is a true Grand Tourer, but that said, its gotta GO...

FTR, she is not a fan of the BS's grill..

Here's pics of both cars ... fwiw I sold the BS within six months of purchase (I actually preferred driving the GTR), but I can't imagine not owning an 812. The only thing that I would let it go for is if its replacement is an NA V12, and even then it would have to look pretty stunning on the outside to accept all the haptic nonsense on the inside.

I agree with soulsea's assessment 100 %. I will say that I drove the BS on a 7 hour ride back to our home and it was surprisingly comfortable and I actually fit better in it than the 812. I am 6' 2". Both great cars and happy to own !

a little off subject but I own a v12 Lusso and an e63s wagon, the sound of a v12 is night and day from a tuned and down-piped v8. the v12 somehow enters your soul and won't leave, I keep coming back for more.
I must say Mercedes does electronics so well, creature comforts, the race seats are snug, the CCB brakes are so much better than the Ferrari and of course Mercedes has so few glitches when is comes to the dreaded CEL's. the AMG feels like a hammer and the Ferrari feels more like a knife.

I own an 'AMG GT Black Series Renntech R3' and an 'AMG GTR Renntech R3' and have driven an '812 Superfast', all three are great cars ... the MB's are better at handling / braking / going fast ... the 812 SF feels nicer when driving at a more sedate pace.... i need more room in the garage!

In what sense? Definetely not in terms of braking distance.

CCB are definitely better in MB than Ferrari .... two days ago i nearly ran a stop sign due to cold CCB in my SF90 .... i was only going 5mph... that has never happened in my MB's!

.... also high speed speed braking, above 160 mph, the MB are a lot better!

.... trust me ... after 3k miles of 'spirited driving' they are more than 'broken in'!

... it was even 'dry and 82F' ... i was rather surprised!

yes, the MB brakes don't have the cold fade like the Ferrari. for some reason the MB feel like they don't need as much heat in them as opposed to Ferrari which seems to stutter when they are cold. MB it is a quicker stop, it's funny how the MB brakes feel more solid and secure.

Following, although my wallet would be more a F12 vs. GT S/R. Head to Head obviously the F12 a more special car and probably won't depreciate as much, but the the GT carries a nice upfront discount.

Indeed Ferrari's CCDB seem to need a bit more heat in them, but when warm they are second to none. Keep in mind that they also need to be bed in.

How about 812 vs 812gts considering cancelling my 296 build and buying a 812 gts to keep forever?

I bought a '19 AMG GT C coupe...flew down to Atlanta on a Saturday to pick it up and drove it back to NYC. By that Monday morning I began my F12 search, and purchased it one year. I still have the GTC but it's been relegated to summer daily duty.

I’ve driven an 812 GTS and I just picked up a GTR. The AMG GTR feels like a track weapon in a suit. I was astonished at how engaging it is to drive as well as the overall level of performance it offers. I also have a Scud and a 675LT and it compliments both of those cars nicely. For me I found it to be a more satisfying than the 812 mainly because I like cars that feel engaged all the time and the 812 is a little to polished for me. My M5 gives me the polished performance and my 550 gives me the Ferrari V12 experience the way that feels right to me.
