My new GTS leather seats were coated with Gyeon leather coating which is silica based. It is supposed to leave a matt finish however, on the GTS the seats are shiny. The detailer has tried various products including those recommended by Gyeon to remove the coating but despite a few hours of trying, the seats still have a shiny and almost slippery coat to them.

In the photos attached you can see how it looks "heavily" applied to certain areas which slightly they improved but with the top down they are very shiny almost armor-all looking.

I would greatly appreciate any insight and help from Fchat members on what to do to restore the factory matt finish.

I own a detailing facility here in Canada (@thedragasautogallery) and we use the same Gyeon Leather coating.

Is it possible for you to tell me how soon after you had noticed the finish, that he had tried to rectify it and what products were used?

My first thought, much like an exterior ceramic coating on paint, would be to use more coating. I know that sounds counter intuitive, but it appears that he had put it on and didn't 'rub to a finish' if that makes sense. Using the new coating to activate the already existing coating will enable it to blend together.

Do in smaller sections, apply to a microfiber applicator, apply to intended section then buff clean/dry with a fresh microfiber and then move on to another part of the seat. Start at the top of the seat and work your way down.

Hope that helps, feel free to respond with any other questions if I can be of any assistance.

Ok so here is the timeline. The coating was applied on last Friday and I went to pick up the car on Saturday morning so just 1 day after. As soon as I noticed it, they tried to use the Mild Gyeon cleaner and initially it looked like it worked but after 5 min, came back to the heavy shiny areas again. So, they contacted Gyeon and was told to the try the "heavier" gyeon cleaner which we tried yesterday, 1 week after initial application. This took off some of the very shiny areas and made it look better but as soon as the top is down in the sunlight you can easily see the shiny spots again and the seat surface is very slippery when I got in. He also tried to put some more coating on top as you suggested but didn't improve the actual "shininess."

My installer is an official Gyeon/Xpel installer and is a true professional and we've used these same products on my G wagons, Flying Spur and also my Pista but for some reason it has the opposite affect on my GTS. He has been in contact with main Gyeon folks in Colorado and spent a few hours trying all sorts of things on it yesterday morning but we see no improvement. Any other suggestions you can offer?

    Thanks in advance.

Replied in PM as well. But I do also agree with the use of that brush. I perhaps wouldn't try CarPro just yet. I can't comment on its effectiveness as I've never use it, but rather incase someone from Gyeon were to ask, they may immediately brush you off saying you have used an 'alternate product, we take no responsibility' etc.

Not saying they would, but better to air on the side of caution.

I've used CarPro Inisde and it works really good. CarPro does a good job. Just a little expensive. But not too expensive

After you remove it, consider using Carpro Inside to clean (about 1 time every 12 months) and then CarPro PERL every 2-3 monthsdiluted with water at 1 to 4 parts water. It takes very little time. Your leather is actually plastic coated and should be treated as plastic trim. In between all of tbis, I just use a quick detailer to wipe off dust. Most people don't understand modern car leather. PERL stands for Plastic, engine, rubber leather and it does it all depending on the dilution ratio.

Install UV and IR heat blocking tint including on the windshield. Xpel prime Xr plus is probably the best technology at this time. No detailing product will completely protect over time even if it has UV blockers built in. So the tint does more to protect the interior.

Well, I tried it yesterday on a small spot twice but it didn't change the sheen on the leather. Any other suggestions? perhaps just better to wait for it to wear off but I'm afraid that the areas that we don't physically contact will not wear off from daily use. Extremely frustrating to have this happen on a keeper car.

So you used the yellow scrub brush too I send you a picture of?

On a exterior ceramic coat you use things like degreasers and rubbing alcohol to remove. But I am afraid that if you start using more agressive chemicals, it could permanently ruin the leather. CarPro Inside is safe, but it's pretty strong. I know that on exterior coatings you have to polish off ceramics which speaks how they stay on.

I thought you were working with Gyeon on this? What have they said. I feel for you. So frustrating

Here is something i found for you. Time may be the best solution.

Yes, I bought the same scrub brush you recc from amazon.

Gyeon, has not gotten back to my detailer who has been in contact with them since this happened and so far no suggestions. I agree with you that time is probably the best way to get it to wear off, only problem with be where there is no wear and tear which will stand out.

I truly appreciate your help and input. If anything else comes to mind, pleas let me know. I will read over the forum link you sent.

    Thanks again

I showed my detailer the pics . He said it looked like an install issue and suspects the detsiler may have not followed instructions properly or even spilled some excess on your seats. He said you can apply more product to even it out or use your seats and let time fix it. He said anything else may ruin your leather.
