Am toying with the idea of getting one (~17-18 Continental GT Speed or Supersports)...always loved the understated elegance of Bentleys and then add the over the top sportiness and agression with the Supersports model.

Also loved when they used to race the GT3 versions on Pirelli Challenge, as well as European/Australian circuits. Especially when the racing team KPax were racing these before they switched to the McLarens.

Any exp, thoughts, comments are appreciated.

The cars are epic, luxurious, heavy, powerful, opulent.
I have had 5 or 6 at least going right back to the first continental gt that came out in maybe 2004. right now just have a 2022 gtc, before that maybe a 2015 gtc i think and a flying spur. they don’t need much in the way of service but when they do it’s not cheap, they are gas guzzlers and I think you will find the electronics/central dash a bit dated now in the 17s and 18s.
    Should you buy one? absolutely.

Roma 1280, just the fact that you have owned that many of them, and from the inception of the model, speaks loads on how much you love them and how good they are.

So the service price is on par with the Ferrari?

I don’t really have any specific memory of service costs. I am sure an annual service is a couple of thousand and I’m sure parts are expensive if something goes wrong but knock on wood I can’t remember every having a problem with any of the Bentleys. Only thing I can remember was a flying spur I had, maybe around 2015/2016, the central dash would occasionally randomly reboot when you were driving along but I never did anything about it and I think that car was a lease so I just handed it back.
If you are looking for a 15 or so, that car is getting on for 10 years old now so mileage, service history etc is going to be important so take your time and make sure you buy a good one.

    Great advice Roma, thanks!

What are your thoughts on a Supersports? Limited run and more performance. In the used market, the premium is not as high as buying new, maybe $30k-40k more. It is even more interesting considering Bentley did not produce that many GT's in 2019, which makes for even more exclusivity in the facelifted 2016-2019 model.

My approach is I tend not to change cars often and keep them for a long time 7+ years at least, and I do drive them and not afraid to put miles on them. Have tracked my cars from Maserati, to Saleen, to Roush, to Vette, to Porsche.

These cars are opulent, heavy, powerful cruisers, so I’m not really buying the concept of a “go faster” version. Two things I know for sure 1. you will definitely enjoy the car and 2 you will definitely lose money.
Given 2, I would buy the cheapest, best spec, low mileage car you can find.
Buying some allegedly limited version is not wrong if you like the look, I just wouldn’t spent much more on it.

I think my next driver will be an 8 cylinder Bentley Continental GT.

Am I crazy? I currently drive an S-550. The only problem I see with this idea is nobody in Memphis seems to know how to service them. How do others handle this? No DIY on a Bentley for me.

I was toying with the idea of the V8 GT also. According to reviews, the lighter weight up front actually makes the car less front heavy than the V12 and more balanced. But I am a sucker for V12s.

I actually do basic maintenance on all my cars (oil changes, etc) and the future Bentley would be no different for me...unless someone with experience with these cars tells me otherwise.

Totally go for the v8, I have had both v8 and w12.
The v8 is lighter, sounds better, has better mileage, a great power delivery and is a lot cheaper. No-brainer if you ask me.

Not to mention that the V8 is probably easier and less expensive to maintain also.

Let.me throw a curve ball at you Roma. In the secondary market, the V12 and V8 are very close in price...with relatively same pricing, would that change your recommendation for the V8 preference?

As always, love your feedback and advice!

The W12 has huge snob-appeal because it’s unnecessarily expensive, heavy and guzzles gas. Therein lies the appeal. I would choose a car based on mileage, spec and history. If there was a great W12 and the pricing was close to the V8 then yes I might be tempted. The W12 isn’t as tuneful as the V8 but has a lovely smooth whirling growl. My first GT was a W12 and I loved it.
