I was picking up a couple of watches the other day at a jewelery store and they had Vertu phones there and I kind of want one but I want to know what people who own them think of them before I spend $13,000.

How is the concierge service and will I damage the phone if I drop it?

People really spend $13,000 on an electronic device that will be technologically obsolete in a year or two?

It looks like they made a phone that was $310,000!!! Wow.

What is the benefit of one of these phones other than the Concierge key? It is made by Nokia.

"The mobiles themselves are made from very expensive materials such as gold, sapphire (for the mobile screen), rubies (for the bearings) and fine leather. Plus, each mobile is hand-made in its factories in Church Crookham, Hampshire, England."

    Cool!?

It wouldn't be obsolete, they'll just be more advanced phones to choose from.

Well I still have my Nokia 8800 which is almost 5 years old and it still works fine...I just want a phone, I do not need mobile internet or a video player so I think it will be good for a while. Plus all of the parts are modular so they can be replaced and updated.

They just feel really nice in your hand. The buttons have ruby bearings. They also come with a flight planner which will update your flight info automatically if the gate changes or the plane gets delayed. They also have this secure data feature so if your phone breaks or gets stolen all of your emails and data are safe in Vertus secure underground server in some sort of bomb shelter.

I used to use Voce for wireless service and their concierge which I found very helpful before the just shut down one day...... If Vertu's concierge is on the sam level you will be happy and come to rely on them.......

Vertus are some of the most pointless peices of engeneering on the planet. The screens are worthless and the shape makes it look like it should have a chord. I honestly think if I ever saw somebody with one I would laugh at them...

Try this one on for size, SonyEricsson has a phone called the Black Diamond... If I am not mistaken only 5 are going to be made, costing $300K... No kidding... I know a guy who said he had a Goldvish (Swiss - stupid expensive). They make the most expensive phone in the world at $1M.

These are the sorts of people who should be dumped in the middle of Bangladesh without shoes.

    Quoted for Truth!

A friend of mine has a Vertu, one of those Ferrari inspired ones, AND IT IS USELESS. We often laugh at him for spending so much money on a phone that is inferior to our 100 dollar phones in every way. He's got one of those entry level 13k ones and it doesn't even have a camera, the screen's ridiculously tiny, doesn't seem to be good at playing music, or any other normal function that's available in a normal cheap phone.

On the bright side, to answer the OP's question, I don't think a Vertu will stop working if you dropped it, but you'd be putting chips and scratches on a 13 thousand dollar phone, and you'll have to worry about people stealing it every time you leave it on the table. Do you really want to deal with that? My friend's Vertu actually spoilt after he brought it on a trip on a boat with me, I can't say I was very impressed.

They have iPhone apps for that.

Don't see how the Vertu is that special. Doesn't 'wow' me for it's price tag.

I understand, I've had the same Nokia phone for the past 4 years (they are work horses). But with technology and all phones moving towards the ability to view the internet, have audio/video etc. you'll get tired of having just a basic phone and will want something newer/better. I'm sure there have been instances where you've needed to looking something up or check your email but weren't near a computer.

You could buy an iphone, get the casing gold plated or made in gold for that matter. Have someone to develop a concierge application (have a friend who can do it) and at the end of the day, you'd have a lot more money left over and a phone that has more functionality and the best ui than anything else on the market.

And you'd spend less than 2,000.

TBH those stupid expensive phones are a bit like spending a thousand dollars on a condom, only the elastic thingy in there is made of leather and lined with gold. Does exactly the same trick as the $2 ones but looks nicer.

9/10 functions won't be used at all (flight information? most phones have internet now too and you can get the same stuff!). I think you're much better of with a solid newer nokia or so.

I do not want an iPhone...it is a toy first and a phone second...not to mention a crap phone at that.

That is certainly cool but it is really gaudy looking.

Well I have a BlackBerry and a Nokia 8800...but my Nokia 8800 is really old and needs an upgrade...I do not really see what is wrong with spending money on a phone...I have expensive watches and pens...why not have an expensive phone?...None of my watches keep as good time as a Timex and my fountain pens are much more temperamental than a Bic...but in my opinion the Vertu is easier to use than both my Nokia and my Blackberry...plus of the internals on a Vertu are upgradable.

You clearly want to buy one - go and do it! I know that you can puchase Vertu at select Tourneau stores, over the counter.

I personally wouldn't buy one, but enjoy it!

I collect them.. I have two now. One of the models is the mini Ferrari 1947 and the other is an ascent Ti. I love them but really prefer the Mini as it is not as hefty and cumbersome as the Ascent. I will post pictures here...... By the way I also have two ferrari watches etc...One is shown here..I had 3 but gave it away to a good friend!

Apart from the logo and the unique design of these phones, I love these phones and I could care less if someone would laugh at me for having one of these beauties. It is a very well built sturdy phone and love the look and feel of quality products. To me having quality things is whats makes life so interesting ! Especially a well engineered car such as a Ferrari. Why would anybody have anything less than a Ferrari. Once you have the best ..forget the rest..LOL!!! Its all personal preference and that is whats makes this life so interesting and enjoyable!!!Forget about what other people think and ENJOY LIFE!!!!

IMHO they are a little like owning a Breitling watch. Sure a $2 China watch will accomplish the same goal... but then again a Kia Soul would get you around town & noticed, so why own a Ferrari??? Vertu makes some beautiful phones.

iPhone - what a joke. One drop & it's worthless. Not to mention every teenager has one...

The sales rep at the vertu store in vegas told me if I ever had "friends of importance" and happened to ever attend a party with people of such importance my iphone would be laughed at because the vertu is a status symbol like a rolls royce.....I replied ya exactly like a rolls royce except EVERYONE knows what a rolls royce is, who in the hell but a select few knows what this phone which works on the edge network fyi is.

My two cents, its one of those things you buy when you've got more money than brains. Any Platinum or Black Amex will give you personalized concierge if you ever truly need it. The black card is $7500 first year fee, get that instead because the Vertu has no functionality whatsoever outside of your basic free phone sold with a contract at your local ATT store. If you wanna show off, go buy a replica vertu for $250 and wow your rich and important friends because that's all I got from the sales rep that it's merely a conversation piece and nothing more.
