Does anyone have long term experience using Castrol Edge Supercar 10w60 oil over the Shell Helix?

I've run Castrol Edge (made by Petronas in europe) in all my vehicles for many hundreds of thousands of miles, and I question the quality of the Shell Helix in the 599 GTB when it requires an additive MADE by Petronas (and the F12/FF does not).

Anyone have any information on the Castrol or Petronas 10w60?

The edge 10w60 is recommended for many bmw and keonigsegg and bugatti, i would not hesitate to use it if its the correct weight oil.

I'm looking for people who have experience with the Castrol or Petronas in Ferrari V12s. I've already read the literature off the websites about the oil, and the manufacturer's that use it.

Your car wont blow up from a different oil or have catastrophic wear

People over think oil, use what is recommended, or somehow think lifter noise is an indicator of how good a quality the oil is

Ive always changed my oil very regularly and ive blown up several engines and many diffs and transmissions in other cars
The failures were never related to the type of oil or how often if was changed

This would be good advice to this site since no one on this site owns a car, or drives a Ferrari more than 20 miles a week.

It's clear to me there's no information on this forum. You guys don't know anything.

The additive for the 599 was required for the valve timing system at high rpm and hot engine. They discontinued its use in the 599 GTO and newer V12 as they changed the design of the variator assembly. Nothing to do with oil. If you run the Castrol in the 599 GTB you will still need the additive or you may get valve timing errors on a hot engine run at the high end of the RPM range.

Arrogant little so and so arent we? Haha

What precisely do you want to know?? Your question is vague and i provide experience and you dont like it? yet you ask about the other oil also

Ive used 10w60 for a long time its bloody good stuff mate! Does that help??

You seem to know more than any of us

Its attitudes like that which make a forum die as no one likes to post

Glad i made a friend today

5 day break - likely a favor since there isn't anyone knowledgeable about Ferraris here.

599 Workshop Manual section A3.01 states that 800 grams of PAO must be added at each oil change. You can get it at your dealer for about $35. The product is made by Petronis and is called Tutela FVI Booster Oil. It comes in 1 liter blue plastic bottles. This stuff looks like STP, but I would never take a chance with not using this FVI. One bottle weighs just over 800 grams. Obviously, leave enough room in the oil tank so that when you add the liter of FVI, it is not overfilled.

    Copied from the workshop manual:

Fully tighten the oil filler cap on the tank. Start the engine and leave running at idle speed to reach a temperature of 95°C (approx. 10 minutes after starting). PAO additive must be added to the lubrication circuit at each engine oil change. Unscrew the oil tank cap and add, pouring slowly and in small quantities at a time, 800 g of PAO code No. 232571 additive to the tank (filling process should take about 10 minutes to complete)

'Good starting point for many high powered cars, yes. But if you read all chapters you would be able to make adjustments to meet your specific needs.

As an engineer, I certainly follow the importance of flow when starting an engine. As an owner of a 430 and a 599, I am afraid to deviate from the Ferrari specifications until I get additional decision quality data. I am wondering if anyone has any engine wear or failure data related to oil types and additives, particularly in the case of the 599 engine.

I am also interested in knowing more about the Ferrari oil spec change for the 599 GTO. I have heard that the Tutella additive (looks like STP) and high viscosity oil is specified by Ferrari to mitigate a lifter noise at cold startup. Would this be at the expense of higher engine wear at cold startup?

In my case, I will not be on the track. I drive 1-2000 miles a year around town in SW Florida, sometimes at high RPM after warmup. The 599 occasionally makes a light ticking sound on startup after sitting, presumably from lifter leak-down. As noted above, I use the recommended viscosity oil and Ferrari additive (looks like STP).

I routinely used tutela FVI (Ferrari Viscosity Improver) on our vintage Alpine. Works quite well when you do not have time for an oil change but need to boost the Viscosity in very hot conditions. It did indeed tame the rocker-arm noise. Was impressive to tell the truth.

This being said my son told me the engine gets hoter when using 10w40+FVI versus straight 10w60.

As far as the GTO is concerned, this reminds me the glory days of the 308 dino when owners were asked to add a generous amount of molykote grease to the oil (that's in the OM!). Sticking to such oldschool rituals seems appropriate for the revival of the iconic GTO badge...

I have 4 years of quarterly UOA from Blackstone for that oil. With that attitude you can go look elsewhere. Try bitog.
