    -iam thinking of building one
    -i have owned both(several x19s and a 164)
-x19 is one of the most balanced, best handling ,lightest cars ever ...
just not any power to even think of steering with the gas pedal
-only way to steer a sportscar.lol
-road and track voted the x19 as one of the top 10 sportscars of all time!
-anyone ever see or know anything about an alfa v6 powered fiat x19?

If the proposed v6 out-weighs the 4-cylinder, then there goes your "most balanced, best handling ,lightest cars ever".

it was featured in auto italia a while back. the car was a real monster with large fenders and serious fabrication, not a project for the faint of heart but it was seriously quick and sounded great.

    you probly mean this: http://www.p1x-2000.co.uk

it's 200kg heavier than it should be i think... still lighter than most cars, but loses that featherweight status and probably the cat-on-carpet feel.

    almost...

    ##################
The engine is the 90 degree engine that chev uses in the S10 pickups. The one I used is the earlier version that came as a 3.8L. The S10 truck engines are a 4.3L. The transmission is a 1980 Buick Riveria front wheel drive automatic.

The conversion added maybe 300 pounds and has 200HP so is a bit faster than the stock X19, but slower on the turns.

The first thing that was done was go have an adapter machined that turned the final drive up side down. Placing the engine facing towards the rear put most of the engine and all of the transmission weight forward of the rear wheels(better weight distribution). And yes, the axle goes through the oil pan. The rear suspension is totally custom made utilizing a 1990 Olds 98 front spindles, VW shocks with VW Surraco towers. Lower A-arms are welded up from cut apart X19 ones.

This project started in 1988 and took 7 years to complete. A lot of time was spent working out the rear suspension problems such as getting the rear bump steer down to where I was happy. The car handles real good and is not tail heavy.

insanerer... built by "mk e" here on fchat...

    from an ebay ad...
    ######################
THIS IS A 1980 FIAT BERTONE, REAR ENGINE MONSTER!

THIS LITTLE FIAT HAS A 500 CUBIC INCH CADILLAC ENGINE AND DRIVE TRAIN MOUNTED IN THE REAR. THE ENGINE AND TRANNY ARE FROM A 1970'S ELDORADO. THE FRAME WORK AND FABRICATION WHERE VERY NICELY DONE. THIS CAR RUNS STRAIT.

THE BODY HAS BEEN WIDEND ABOUT 7" ON BOTH SIDES AND THE METAL WORK WAS DONE AS TO LOOK SOMETHING LIKE A FARRARI. THE CUSTOM HEADERS ARE VERY NICELY DONE ALSO, THE ENGINE HAS HAD SOME PERFORMANCE WORK DONE BUT I DO NOT KNOW TO WHAT EXTENT (IT SOUNDS INSANE ) IT HAS A NEW HOLLY DOUBLE PUMPER ON A CUSTOM WELDED INTAKE.

I HAVE ONLY DRIVEN THIS CAR TWICE AND RETURNED SHAKING LIKE A LEAF! THIS THING IS AN ANIMAL, I DO NOT KNOW WHAT KIND OF TIME IT WILL RUN, BUT I HAVE A 11 SECOND CORVETTE AND THIS FIAT MAKES IT LOOK LIKE A TOY.

THIS CAR IS BY NO MEANS COMPLETE AND WOULD NOT PASS TRACK INSPECTION, MINIMUM NEEDS WOULD BE, WHEELIE BARS, ROLL BAR, INTERIOR NEEDS ALL,NEEDS REAR BREAK ASSEMBLY(HAS ONLY STOCK FRONT BREAKS ) ALL THE WELDS ON BODY NEED TO BE GROUND DOWN AND THE BODY NEEDS TO BE FILLED PRIMED AND PAINTED(BODY VERY ROUGH) (NO RUST),THE COOLING SYSTEM IS OK BUT SHOULD BE MODIFIED (2 RACING RADIATORS AND FANS MOUNTED UNDER HOOD ) BUT PIPING TO CLOSE TO GROUND FOR MY LIKING,

IT HAS NEW P-225-50R15'S ON REAR AND NEEDS NEW 165-13'S ON FRONT,IT WILL NEED NEW FREEZE OUT PLUGS AS THEY ARE LEAKING SLIGHTLY, LIKE I SAID IT NEEDS THE REAR BREAKS, THE LINES ARE TO THE REAR OF THE CAR BUT I HAVE MISSPLACED THE CALLIPERS, YOU WILL NEED CALLIPERS FROM A 1970'S CADI AND THEY WILL BOLT RIGHT ON.ALL THE HARD WORK IS DONE BUT THIS CAR IS NOT FINISHED.

I MUST ALSO SAY THAT THIS CAR SHOULD NOT BE DRIVEN AS IS!! AS I SAID I HAVE DRIVEN IT TWICE AND IT IS VERY SCARY, YOU CANT KEEP THE FRONT WHEELS ON THE GROUND (WHEELIE BARS NEEDED)AND IT IS VERY HARD TO STOP WITH ONLY THE FRONT BREAKS.

***I WILL NOT ALLOW TEST DRIVES OF THIS CAR!!!!!***

I WILL START IT AND MOVE IT AROUND TO SHOW IT IS IN WORKING ORDER AND THATS IT. YOU CAN DRIVE IT AT YOUR OWN RISK AFTER PURCHASE.

THIS CAR IS SOLD "AS IS" AND MUST BE PICKED UP, I WILL NOT SHIP SO YOU WILL NEED A TRAILER OR FLATBED. ANY QUESTIONS PLEASE ASK BEFORE BIDDING (I KNOW I HAVE PROBABLY LEFT OUT SOME THINGS,I DID MY BEST) PLEASE DO NOT BID IF YOU ARE NOT POSSITIVE YOU WANT THIS PROJECT.

with enough horse power you can make a Conestoga wagon do 9 seconds in the quarter mile,I only dealt with the stock item as sold by FIAT.whenever we got in an X1/9 for salvage, the desperate owners would line up at the door pleading to buy all of the same parts needed by everyone else in line ie.Window regularors(bag of cables)latch assy in drivers door for engine cover/trunk/ various interior bits/cylinder heads/exhaust manifolds and mufflers/trannys/brake rotors etc.etc. the bones of these cars were picked cleaner and faster than any other car that comes to mind.parts availability from FIAT sucked and this was when car was still current in the lineup.

If you are going to do an engine transplant I would use a Scorpion instead of an X. The Scorpions are not much heavier but have lots more space.

There have been several modified with ALFA V6 Motors, FIAT 16V 2 liter motors, Thema Super Charged etc.

...only in 037 guise i would hasten to add from a personal perspective, they just look so lacking without it. for me the beauty of the X is in it's natural shape... some bodykits and versions look good, but i always look back to the standard car with relief. :)

i would kill for Al Cosentino's...
