Was watching an episode last night. Some regular kid comes in and wants two subwoofers, a DVD navigation and some other minor bolt on type stuff in his Nissan 350Z.

    Quote: $20,000

What a rip off! No wonder celebs are mostly his customers. They are the only ones who can afford to get ripped off so bad. I have yet to see any job in that shop be worth $20,000.

He seems like a good guy with his customers. Most of his customers are paying for the name and that little "Unique" sticker on their car. So everytime some wannabe sees that car and says "oh man, this was customized by Unique!!!," the owner would probably feel it was worth the money. It's all brand name even though the products (i.e. headunits) are exactly the same. Either that or the customers "feel" that $20k is worth a headunit.

Coming from someone who has 6 world championships in the car audio industry, it depends. Subs, amps, dvd, nav, depending on the brand can cost between 4-6k. Install, depending on what’s done another 2-5k+, misc "Bling" who knows.

Right now for my 328 I have a set of $500 5.25 component speakers, and a $1000 Amp, and I'm not even at the Head Unit yet. I didn't pay that much for them of course, being a 6 time world champ has its privileges, but the average joe would.

If the average joe wanted the system that’s going into my 328 with install it would cost “about” $3k.

On the flipside I’ve done many celeb cars (out of 8-9 years in car audio) there are many “slam and bang” shops out there that cater to celebs, its simple and easy, build a box and fit it, build trim panels, “there you go Mr. Celeb now your hot-now where’s my $20k”. While it may look cool all trimmed off, it took 2 maybe 3 days to do. I never used these tactics, but that’s not to say some don’t. Not that I’m accusing any shops mentioned in this thread of anything, Just giving some car audio insight.

I just have yet to see anything "Unique" about UAS. It's the same thing every show. Rims/tires, flip out head unit, two JL audio subs with two JL Audio amps mounted to the box, Strut grill, Stinger cap.

    Rinse & Repeat.

If they go really hog wild, they might put LCDs in the headrests or change the seat inserts to fake alligator.

I have yet to see them do any job that my local shop can't do, and would probably do at half the price of UAS. It looks to me like he's charging them $20K+ for jobs that cost him about $3000K without rims.

Charging $15K in labor for a cheap 3 day job is insane. I'm in the wrong business.

I like the episode when he called the Srt-10 Truck an "Rts-10." Remi is pretty handy with the fiberglass, so you're also paying for his "custom" enclosures. I'm sure there is obviously warranties involved and all that mumbo jumbo, I won't even price anything there as I'm sure the final tag would be out of my league.

Crappiest show on TV. Watch a bunch of d i c k heads run around yelling at each other. They usually screw up the car twice before getting it to work and then it looks like crap. Really. Oh and I love the one where they had this girl intern washing a new Ferrari 430 out back as "punishment". More like punishment for the owner. Probably had fine scratches all over the paint.

WCC is head and shoulders above these guys. Most of the UA stuff is like a good Best Buy install. Its a joke.

The show last night showed will getting a hair cut.
Who wants to watch a fat guy getting a hair cut?
He would lose business if remmi left the crew..
I think he is more entertaining than will.

I catch this show once in a while but I've yet to see them actually improve the looks of any car they've done. I guess this type of customizing has never really appealed to me. On a side note that Castro guy who looks like a pain sometimes is nowhere near the jackass that Boyd Coddington seems to be.

I find it amazing that people pay that guy to butcher their cars. Some of the most tasteless vehicles I have ever seen are produced by that shop.

Boyd Coddington. His FIRST wheel business. He blamed the downfall on his wife, Japan, EVERYBODY. Well, for once in the history of media publishing, Hot Rod Magazine told the truth, and told readers (in a letters to the editor reply) that Boyd ripped off people, investors, friends in the industry, by lying to them about the real situation, and got "so-called friends" to invest when he knew the whole deal was upside down.

Boyd has some wheels for my car That I am building, that I really like. in fact, I like them more than any other wheel. But those wheels won't get within 1000 miles of my car because I don't need the bad karma.

Chip Foose has owned him so bad.

My favorite episode was when they ricer spray painted the panels out of a Merc. I honestly don't remember at all what model it was, but they deffinately took the dash panel, door panels, etc. out back and gave them the ole' rattle can special. Probablly about $5K worth of work there, haha what a joke.

You must not watch much. They do this to a lot of cars. The shop is a joke. The guy who does apolstery (sp?) at West Coast Customs has more talent is his big toe than everyone at Unique put together.

The best episode was when Charlie and Beetle both left for Chip. I also understand Mike is now with Foose as well!

IIRC, there was a member on here and ***********.com by the name of d-wiggs who had his Murcielago done up by Unique. The car turned out pretty good. I agree with everyone about Will Castro. Remi has a solution for everything and does great work, I'm surprised he puts up with as much of Will's BS as he does. I admire the guy.
