I confirmed via the Ferrari Heritage Color Certificate that the 308 GT4 I acquired less than two weeks ago is (and was originally) painted code 20-Y-546 Avorio Safari (Safari Ivory). I have never seen it on any Ferrari official color chart, and my understanding is that it was a special-order paint color in 1975 and maybe '76. One advertisement for a GT4 in Avorio with Boxer matte black lower paint said only 6 cars were painted Avorio. (There's another GT4 from an Autoweek Escape Roads article in the early 1990s painted in the same Avorio-Boxer scheme.)

Does anyone know if any other Ferrari models were painted Avorio... or if the six-GT4s-only is accurate? I wonder how many of the six were full-Avorio (rather than Avorio over Nero) or have the Rossa leather interior like this one?

Any info would be appreciated. I know it doesn't raise the value of the car (it's a GT4...so value isn't something with which to be concerned), but I'd like to know if it really is that rare.

    Sammy,

Yeah, I understand. Luckily in the flesh it's not quite as yellowish as the German taxi. It's more like a rich-white (just a little off-white). It actually doesn't look that good in pictures...better in person. All the guys at the shop keep saying how the car really has grown on them and they all think it looks very cool.

That's great Peter -- thanks for showing that. That actually contradicts the Original Ferrari 308/328/.... book, which doesn't list it as an available stock color, as well as other references I've seen that only point to it being a special-order/non-stock color. (I suppose it could have been a special-order color and still have been in the chip book.)

Verde Germoglio -- I guess would be "bud green"? It looks more mustard in the photo, but I just found this pic of a 308, and it's much more green (like pistachio)

Just a update to this post. I do own the car that is Avorio Safari with boxster black that was featured in the Auto Week article. My interior is black. I would love to find out any further information on how many were actually produced or still left in one piece. I have been told there are only 3 legitimate cars including mine that are left in this color.

Was there to different Avorios colors?? Avorios and Avorios Safari? Or are they both the same? Who is the color expert out there regarding 75 GT4 paint colors? I do appreciate the help, bringing the car in for paint soon.

Well there's another better known SAMMY that has an ivory colored LaFerrari.
Whether it's exactly the same color as your GT4- hard to tell, but it certainly looks great.
So there are MODERN cars painted this color too.

Here's one from the F12 subforum ... Appears to be a brand new Avorio to be delivered to an Asian client who's anxiously "waiting" ... Maybe hit him up on Instagram for more details? Hope this helps!! :)

I work with automotive colors often and get bored with the usual fare, That Bud Green looks Awesome on the 308!

why only one cut out above the rear exhaust tips?

    Just getting into this colour.

From photo comparisons, the old Dino version of "Avorio Safari" seems to be much lighter than the current "Avorio" offered by Ferrari. The old colour looks like a creamy white, while the new one looks beige. In photos anyway.

I love the old colour on your GT4.
