I'm writing an editorial on Tesla's problem in Fremont. Anybody with me?
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------

    Tesla prepared to
    move out of
    California

There is a line in a famous Paul Newman movie where

he is a prisoner in the American South and the prison guard

says "what have here is a failure to communicate."
I always am entertained, and encouraged by Elon

Musk, who runs two giant firms, Space-X and Tesla, when

he confronts government agencies. Right now he

is battling with the County that his Fremont, CA factory is in,

Alameda County, and threatening to move

his company's headquarters and future operations

    out of California.

The object of his wrath is an interim public health

officer, Dr. Erica Pan, who said that health orders to

contain a Covid-19 outbreak in the region are still

in place, and that Tesla does not have a “green light,” to resume vehicle production

Musk uses twitter to take pot shots at Pan personally, Musk wrote on Twitter:

she was “ignorant,” though she is a graduate of Tufts

medical school, completed a residency and fellowship at

UCSF and has worked at Alameda County Public

Health Department since 2011 while also working as a

    physician and professor.

In my sympathy with Musk I wanted to point out how

California, in hounding Tesla, could end up killing the golden

goose, ie. killing off a model business, a business that is:

--a company that makes non polluting cars. isn't

    California for zero emissions?

-A company which has streamlined vehicle production

far better than Detroit and the lessons they are

    teaching industry world-wide are textbook

material that should be taught in universities worldwide

--A company making a product recognized as No. 1

    in innovation among electric cars

-a company that shows California is where a company's

    dreams can be achieved.

If he relocates the plant to Texas, and succeeds there,

it will be Texas that gets a reputation for encouraging

makers of forward looking state-of-the-art products.

If the automaker that buys the Fremont plant makes internal combustion

cars, California will have once again shot itself shot itself in the foot.

I agree Musk is far from diplomatic but he is an innovator I put on a par with Thomas Edison.

Imagine if Edison has been constrained --we wouldn't

have the electricity we have now.

So I'm pleading with the politicians who think they will stay in the voter's minds--

if they drive Tesla out of the state, over 10,000 jobs will be lost.

But that Doctor will no doubt be proud....she took on the world's2nd or 3rd richest man and beat him.
    Any opinions?

I see your point, but I find it hilariously ironic that you mentioned Edison, when it was Nikola Tesla/Westinghouse that developed the polyphase Alternating Current system that pushed Edison's Direct Current model out of the industry. By the time Edison got with the program, JP Morgan owned him outright and eventually eliminated Edison's name from General Electric.

Not a bright idea on Alameda County's part though.
