I am considering the purchase of a 1996 Bentley Azure and would love to get some feedback from other owners. Are there any specific concerns regarding this model that I should be aware of?

There are a few here, try searching and then maybe you will come across a few. I don't think the British section gets much traffic.

Neighbor has one. uses it as his daily. other than an episode with an incompetent valet... he says it's been bulletproof.

IMO ,very heavy car, look for spring and schocker wear and bushes.
Expensive car to run so history is the key

it's a drop top continental, or a two door mulsanne without roof, it's up to you how you call it. Never had one but it's a classic bentley from the 90's. Spares are abundant (except for the specificities they don't share with the coupes or 4 doors), electronics are british but simple and there are many many independent specialists that know those cars by heart. The 6,75 engine is bulletproof.

Thanks for the feedback. It sounds like as long as the regular maintenance had been kept current an Azure should be a reliable car. It would be my intent to use it as a summer daily driver.

Just about a year ago I bought a 00 Bentley Continental R Mulliner w/ 20k on her. I am the fourth owner. She was well maintained, as confirmed by the dealer. The only thing I did to her since is an oil and fluids change for about $400. Please email with any further questions.

    re: Brake job.

Do keep in mind that if you get one of these, you will not be able to perform a brake job yourself (don't know if you're a DIYer anyways). For the rear rotors, you'll need a special RR hub tool to remove them and it's an all-day job. For the fronts, well, I hope you have an accurate micrometer to adjust the bearing free play once you have it all back together. Rolls Royce/Bentley = Beautifully mastered archaic principles of engineering.

    ....that's why I love my Bentley :D

    Cheers,
    Aaron

I had an Arnage Red Label for 5 years and the only thing it ever needed was regular maintenence. I think most of the Bentley horror stories are just that. Just make sure you get it checked out and review the service records. Also, make sure it has all the books/keys etc. as they are crazy prices at the dealer!

    BlackJag;

Gorgeous! I love the CFS! I'm always caught drooling over the adverts from Bramley of Kensington in Classic and Sports Car, they have what must be the largest selection of Flying Spurs in the world!

    Cheers,

    great cars,fast and all alloy.
faster then the standard body cars ie lighter and lower but IMO not as well built and on a 2nd road rather drive a standard car fast.

There are two for sale locally at dealers; One 1996($109K Cdn) and a 1999 ($139K Cdn). There is a 2000 Azure in Quebec as well. I do not know the asking price for that one yet. There is a very nice looking 99 Continental SC (T-top) at another dealer in Quebec but the asking price seems high ($168K Cdn). All are black.

In response to your tach picture, here's a pretty good one of a Turbo R at full-tilt in its homeland...

How's this for some tall gearing? :D

The SC's are rare, so the price might be right I will have to look to see how many were built.

    79 were built.
