Was looking thru autotrader and noticed this Pista for sale at WPB Ferrari. The attached pics display the battery compartment with an antigravity battery. I wonder how they got around the sensor connector that attaches to the OEM lithium battery. If it’s a fix that would reduce the hassle of the ultra expensive lithium battery designed for,the car. Just wondering if anyone has heard of the modification.

FNA no longer provides Lithium batteries for the Pista. lithium batteries from FNA now reserved only for LAF and SF 90. Ferrari now makes a conversion kit for Pista that converts to regular non Lithium batteries. You get to keep your Lithium connectors if you ever have to go back or sell the car.

I’m interested in this as well.
I didn’t know about this conversion kit. So does that mean the kit will “eliminate” that dreaded sensor connector which then allows one to use the antigravity battery as a replacement?

I know this car. So this cars battery died while it was in storage and getting PPF(The owner at the time didnt have a battery tender). The OEM Lithium battery died so bad that it couldn't be recharged, and warranty was expired. Ferrari wanted to 7-8k for a new Li battery and the nobody wanted to pay the conversion cost which i forgot how much it was. So they fitted a Antigravity battery without the conversion, it worked but the battery light on the dash stayed on. Im not sure if WPB did the conversion on this now.

if your car is a keeper and the only downside is a dash light then it's a no brainer to just use the antigravity bat

You would have to charge the anti-gravity battery either from the inside or thru a modified port. The one which comes with Lithium has reversed polarity. Having already replaced the battery once (at 7.3k dólares) if I kept the car long term would probably go the conversion route.

The conversion kit addresses all of the issues and includes a new charger that uses the existing charging port.

Texas2Step. Do you by chance have the part # for this kit?

$6.4k seems excessive. Wonder if we can get the parts from Ricambi or something?

Sorry I don’t. Agree the cost is excessive. Your local F dealership may be a resource for the part number or maybe MyRicambi might have it.

The conversion kit is relatively new so not sure if we have long term data. However, with the kit you can use any non lithium battery with a reputation that suits you. You still have to connect to the trickle charger though.

I saw the battery is A123 System battery, which same as MB or Mclaren use.
In Mclaren they develop a Arduino Battery Amulator, I guess it will work for 488 pista
It just the Lin bus talking

Does anyone have an update of this post? I recently purchased an antigravity battery which I plan on installing. The dealer has a kit for $2,347 which replaces the lithium battery with a cheaper AGM battery which I don't want to do... Has anyone figured out a way around the issue with using the antigravity battery? The tech at the ferrari dealership told me I should be fine using this battery but I'll have a battery failure light on at all times due to the plug not being connected...

You also need to ask what adapter can be used for charging….i was advised the polarity is reversed on the current charging port. I already changed the lithium battery once and pains me to think of dealing with this issue in the future, I would be interested if your dealer sells the kit for 2k plus and will ship. At the current time there is only one source for the OEM Lithium. I worry for the long term keepers of Pistas that the batteries with the special connector will be discontinued at some point.

I just put an antigravity in my Pista .... No lin port ..... Car starts and runs fine but the warning light is there
It also charges fine apparently with the Ferrari lithium charger ...... Can you explain your comment about reverse polarity?
    Thanks

I believe it refers to the Pista specific port connector. I bought an extra Lithium CTEX 5-160Ah charger. When I spoke with the CTEK support I was advised to buy a different port magnetic connector (made for the Pista) - that the +/- on the conventional ones are made for acid and other batteries. Are you confirming that the OEM lithium Ferrari charger is compatible with with an anti-gravity battery or are you using a different charger?
