Wow, I went to go for a cruise and saw my antenna loose in the hole of the body!! Just last night it was all there, so I checked around for a nut, but no luck! Canadian Tire had a whole new electric antenna for $65 but it pointed straight up. NAPA had one for $50 that includes about 6 different angle trim parts for the topside, so it was a natural! Perfect fit, even the small bolt at the bottom lines up and it looks totally stock! I didn't wire it because I don't use a sound system but it only took me about 20 minutes to replace. Just wanted to share, saves the aggrivation of searching for the OEM part, these antennas are available almost everywhere!! Ciao, Dennis

similar story BUT. The guy who replaced mine did not connect the drainage tube so over a couple of years the moisture stayed in the fibres that lurk under the floor above the exhaust, heat and moisture, you've guessed it, a new floor is now needed! This on a Mondi but others may have similar experience.

The drainage tube actually comes with the aftermarket (universal) power antenna, but I did not install it either, I guess I should!! The original unit that I pulled did have that on there, I didn't see the need for it, but I'll go slip it on later, thanks for that!!

Hi, can anyone confirm if a semi-automatic aerial is correct for my 79 308GTB, what and how many wires should it have, as far as I can see I only have 2 wires which can connect to an aerial in the rear compartment, which appear to come direct from the switch. At present I have a manual aerial fitted but would like to remove it and replace it with something near original.
What make was the original aerial fitted ?

Original aerial on my mondial 3.2 was a Bosch semi automatic, ie it worked off a switch . You push and hold the switch to put the aerial down and push the switch the other way to put the aerial up.

A fully automatic usually works on the basis of as soon as power is detected from the radio it will rise automatically and go down once radio is switched off.

A previous owner replced the aerial on my mondial at main dealer with the orignal bosh part in 1995 at a cost of 123.28 plus Vat

When it failed again in 2006 I replaced it with a fully automatic which fit exactly - looked original apart from the word bosch for £15 from Mapln. I then cut the necessary wires as per the thread on here (search) and wired it up.
hey presto chris moyles can shout abuse at me once again!!

Your original antenna would have been a semi automatic one, possibly an Autovox one like mine. As you're in the UK the best bet for a replacement is the type Maplins sells for £20, looks identical and the install is fairly easy (requires a tiny bit of tinkering to change it to semi from fully automatic).

Yes, my original is exactly like the one pictured above, Autovox, but mine is model #SA-86-12V. The replacement that I got locally is from NAPA by Balkamp part number 730-4834, fully automatic universal power antenna. BUT as everyone knows you can get one much cheaper on the net, I wanted to replace mine right away, that was Sunday morning, so being in Winnipeg, there's not much available, I was happy to spend $50 and 1/2 an hour to "fix" my 308 GTBi up for a cruise. I just couldn't drive it with a hole in the fender now could I!!!! It really does look factory original, only the judges might know the difference, but there are no judges looking at my car!!! Ciao! Dennis
