Well, all was going well. Just back from the Dynamometer, got good numbers, (see other thread). Parked at the end of the driveway, as the detailers were just finishing up the Land Rover. 5 minutes later, a knock at the door, "We have a serious problem." Out I go, and they've backed the Land Rover (my friggin' Land Rover) INTO MY DINO!!! OMG!!! What I can't figure out is why am I not steaming mad. I guess accidents happen. So, with 30 year old paint, what's the chance of them getting the paint even close? Gonna have to repaint the whole front clip, right? Even then, it won't match, will it? Input? suggestions? That really sucks man. I think you would be MORE upset if YOU would have done it. Then you would still be kicking yourself and beating yourself up. I dropped a brand new crotch rocket when I was 16 and put a few scuffs on the fairing and pipe. I layed in bed that night with a knot in my stomach, thinking "If only I'd been more careful moving it!" It just shows you're a nice guy who understands people make mistakes. I'm sure you'll get it all sorted out.
Let the team at Karosserie in King of Prussia take care of it. It won't be cheap, but it will be perfect. And I agree with above, you would feel tons worse if you would have done it yourself. But you understand bad things happen. Even to good and fortunate people too. best, pino
Dave im so sorry to hear and see this, maybe you can get preferred treatment if you say you have two shows coming up.
I was horrified when reading the title to this thread. I was thinking "MAN, THAT SUCKS!" I had this happen to me with another car and it majorly crunched the nose of my car. But upon seeing the photo, it's not too bad. I'm still sorry it happened to you Dave. But I'm glad to see you're taking it well. She'll be good as new in no time.
Dave, Was the detailer insured or do you have to pay for it? Regarding Karosserie, the original owner of my M3 used them for all of his repairs and I am not impressed. The paint is way off on the replacement fender and a straightened panel is starting to rust. These repairs were done a few years ago so things might be better now. Good luck, Art S.
Yep. Not too bad, my major concern is the paint needs to match, and not be kind of close. The area over the headlight is pushed in, and I'm not sure how well that's gonna push back out, either. But, we'll see on Monday, when I run around to a couple of shops. Dave Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks fellas. I gave up drinking about 15 years ago on the advice of my doctor who said I'd live longer. Truth is, it only seems like it. Dave
Sorry to hear (er, read). Now lets make the best out of the situation and book yourself and the Dino into the next track/race day. Now that it is not perfect you will be able to relax and really get into her and return with a huge smile ... then get her fixed ... or maybe after a season or 2 of track days . Pete
When another man pokes a man's girl, it's carnage. You're a good man, so things will work out. In the meantime, drink whatever your pleasure is to your heart's (and bladder's) content.
Off to Cavallo Auto this PM to talk to the manager there. They are STATE OF THE ART and will be taking a close look at what to do. Thanks Erik. DM
I take it you're not a candidate for vintage racing! LOL That's hardly worth mentioning on a GTO... That's an easy fix and they will get it perfect. Color matching these days is a snap. It won't be cheap; I'll guess $2k? And you'll be without the car for a week which is the worst part. Ken
If they were a really good detailer, they should be able to buff that right out... Hope it all works out OK. More agg that you don't need.
I still have some concerns about the paint, but we'll see this afternoon. I can live with a week, easily. Puts me on schedule for car shows I want to go to. I'm considering taking a Porsche 356B super 90 I just bought and making that a vintage racer, I'd rather ding a $15K car than the Dino. DM
When my 72 Lotus got crunched by the front side marker, the repair came out perfect. The only way you can tell the car had paintwork is if you put your eye right on the headlight pod and you don't see orange peel... Ken
