I am looking to buy oil to do the needed oil change on my new car and I've never had such a hard time knowing what oil to buy. I've searched and searched and am still unsure.

I put Amsoil in all of my cars and have always thought it was the best oil out there. I looked and they have regular 5w40, but then they have 5w40 "European oil" and it is available in full SAPS, medium SAPS, and Low SAPS.

I assume I should buy the European blend, but then which SAPS one should I buy?

Then in an earlier post I made, Motul was recommended, and I've also seen the Shell Helix Ultra. Which one is best? Price is a non issue. I just want to put the best stuff in my car.

I haven't even started trying to figure out the transmission oil yet. LOL. I would prefer Amsoil again, but have no clue what is best. I've never had so much trouble just knowing what oil to buy before.

    Anyways, thanks for the advice.

Amsoil is a group lV which is far superior to most group 3 synthetic oils. I feel for all out performance of what you want from a oil anything is far superior then what was made in 2004. But redline / motoul is a group V ester based .And I think the mobile 1 euro is (i think) I feel the price difference is no more.
But it comes down to what makes you happy because this topic (what oil is the best) is a tough one.

Do I need to add anything to the 75w90 NS? Friction modifiers?

I have often wondered what people who need 5W-40 for their Ferrari and want to run Amsoil do?
My F355 takes 10w-40 (well, Ferrari later said 5W-40 is what a F355 needs but mine is a '95) and for that I can run Amsoil 10W-40 Premium Protection and get that extra ZDDP. But after the F355 its all 5W-40. What is a man to do?
Note, Amsoil does have an explanation listed here: https://blog.amsoil.com/european-motor-oils-refresh/
But it doesn't give the detail that we would need for this situation- what does that era of Ferrari need?!

From mild research it appears that SAPS is sort of like ZDDP in the sense that its more protection. However high amounts of sulfated ash will damage gas particulate filters (which the 360 family doesn't have). Additionally "Despite their favourable anti-wear and cleanliness properties, too high a concentration of Phosphorus and Sulfur content can poison and damage a vehicle’s catalyst converter, as well as lead to a buildup of Sulphated Ash in the engine and aftertreatment device." https://klondikelubricants.com/05/low-and-mid-saps-content-in-european-engine-oils-explained/

From what I can tell the original oil (Shell Helix Ultra 5W-40) is considered to be high in SAPS. I haven't looked at an analysis of that oil so I don't have any numbers to go by. I do, however, see references on an oil form referring it to that and also refrencing that a few years ago it was updated to have low SAPS.

All in all I think it would be fine to run the 5w-40 FS (Full Saps) in the car. But I am no expert. But if I had a 360 that is what I would be running.

Thanks for your post. I ended up changing the oil for the first time and went with redline due to several suggestions on this forum. I do have 12 quarts of Amsoil Euro full SAPS sitting in my garage ready to go though. Definitely interested in trying it out, but of course only want to put in what is good for the car.

Please do post your experiences once you do run it. I am a big Amsoil fan and run Amsoil in everything, even my air compressor. My next oil change will be everything Amsoil in the 355- engine and gearbox.
