I have made a number of stops at different Shell gas stations and cannot get my hands on the Shell Donax TA hydraulic fluid needed for my steering pump - I guess gas station these days are more interested in selling beverages for the drivers!
    What is an acceptable substitute?

I used Mobil 1 synthetic power steering fluid. Specs appear to meet or exceed the Shell product. My opinion only, no data to back claim.

Donax TA is equal to the Dexron II trans fluid specification, if you have a bottle of TA, you will see a II E designation on the bottle. Dexron II has pretty much been replaced by Dexron III/Mercon non synthetic ATF fluid. You can use this or a synthetic if you want, Donax TX is equal to synthetic ATF.

Frenchie- We used Valvoline MERCON®V fully synthetic ATF in my 575M's steering. Works like a charm.
