So was trawling the usual sites for parts for my 430 Challenge and came across this oil filter on a secondhand engine.

The challenge filters are slightly larger than the road spec ones, but I’m sure would be interchangeable. I’m assuming for extra capacity/filtration and stable oil pressure.

Anyway I managed to work out the part number for the Wix filter pictured. I used to use Wic oil filters to good effect when racing cars with LS engines.

Does anyone have any experience with these on the 430 engines? They are a third of the price, and when you are changing them after every race weekend it’s quite a saving for me.

The real test would be to see what the flow rates are through each filter. First thing I check when shopping other filters for my other vehicles is what does the hole pattern look like on the bottom. There's a been a few times where I picked up a WIX only to see that there are fewer holes than my OEM. Not sure why either since it's not like extra holes cost more money.

I don't care about the price, just quality.
Wix is actually a great brand. I'm curious if the results.
If it has more filtering media, the better

Haha just found that filter locally. Almost twice the price of the Ferrari filter!
Looks like K&N HP 1018 is a match too at $US18.
Edit, just found the K&N for $US10.50

Also the R on the end of the filter number means racing. Higher flow which means less filtration. Same for the HP (high performance) on the K&N.

Ther is a Japanese one too. Sakura C-5503

Higher flow doesn't always mean less filtration. Yes, you probably don't need higher filtration for race specific or designated filters, but sometimes the higher flow is achieved through means other than reducing filtration.

I have the K&N on order to see if it's interchangeable. Since then though I have seen the OEM 430 filter advertised and stating does not fit 430 challenge. The Wix and K&N state an inch and an eighth x16 thread. I have checked my new Purflux OEM and the thread is somewhat smaller. Will check when the K&N comes in but I'm betting we have an orphan.

I just got both the wix and the k&n. Will check against the factory tomorrow.

I just verify it doesn’t work. Just using the caliper the thread on stock one is a bit over 23mm while the k&n and wiz are over 27mm

Dan should have measured the thickness of the steel on the housing.

Some time ago I remember seeing a video where the sidewall of the Ferrari replacement filter was pulsing!

Possible the steel on the Ferrari filter is slightly thicker to hold the higher pressures?

FWIW, I went to WIX site to search for Ferrari filters.

Strangely the only oil filter shown for Ferrari is for a 458!

Don't think trying to replace the OEM with another is worth the difference in price or the potential damage

Thanks for that, just as I thought. It seems the overpriced Purflux is indeed an orphan. Well done Ferrari.
