According to BusinessF1 Hamilton would have only had time for another lap if he didn't do a pitstop.

Alonso wanted out of his contract because he felt that he no longer had #1 status in the team.

Alonso's in kinda sticky situation for a 2 time WDC. Almost December and nothing confirmed.

Ron, and Andreas. Go back to that pic at 63. Pit lane speed sensor at the top. Helmets turned to each other. Fuel doors go up and down with the pit lane speed limit button. Cars at the line. We won't get to see it without TC. No more of that spot next year. How's the access at Montreal?

No-one expected LH to keep up with FA at the beginning of the season which is why FA assumed #1 position.
When LH stepped up to the plate is where things started falling apart. Some racing luck was involved, so be it.
Fernando is poison. He screwed Renault and totally F'd Mclaren. The boy is talented no doubt. His ethics are suspect.
Ferrari was either foolish to give Massa a long term contract or being coy with a bail-out clause if FA decides to grace the team with his presence. If he signs with Ferrari I will root against the team. For there is no honor among thieves.

You are right, the team is bigger than any driver, however, who was responsible for the fallout and downfall of team Maclaren? Who divulged the information he had on hand along with De la Rosa?

I think that Alonso could be responsible for a whole teams seasonal downfall.

Six McLaren managers/engineers. Alonso didn't start Stepneygate.

IIRC December 15 is the deadline for the teams to nominate their drivers. I'm getting the feeling that Alonso wants to wait and see what the Renault spy scandal will hold for the team, but I doubt that this will get resolved by mid December. So he is in a quandry. Doing a one year with Red Bull might be the best solution at this point. And join Ferrari in 09. :)

Nothing will ever be as easy and accessible as the USGP was during practice days. :( Having said that, with a long lens at the hairpin, you're in pretty good shape and you can walk right into the supporting race paddock, which is very cool. And Montreal knows how to party and how to welcome F1. Indy was nice, but you'll see the difference when you go to Montreal: The whole town lives and breathes the GP for the weekend. As it should.

Yes but who turned on their "team" to provide information? Alonso nevr should have divulged what he knew.

he didn't..........he went to Ron Dennis and Ron went to the FIA.
Alonso was trying to do his blackmailing in-house, but Ron wasn't trying to hear it, so he went to the FIA himself....

    Good point.

    And just for the record:
The actual sequence of events was that Alonso went to Ron, who didn't believe it. Then Alonso went to Bernie and showed him the original emails in Spanish (Bernie doesn't speak Spanish, but Alonso's manager translated on the fly). Bernie then went to Ron. At that point Ron went to the FIA by calling Max.

What's also poignant about all this: Before this went down, Max already knew of the emails (we don't know how) and called Ron. Ron at that point had no idea (or actually heard of it from Alonso, but didn't buy it) and told Max he doesn't know anything. That's what enraged Max so much: Because he thought Ron just lied to him. That's the reason why Max later at the Spa GP went directly to the press and blurred it all out.

Good, Ferrari doesn't need supporters with conditional loyalty.

    :)

Should Alonso ever go to Ferrari, there will be only a handful of fans left on FChat. Assuming we can go by what people said here so far. :)

So you would not mind having Alonso in the Ferrari organization? You don't think he wouldn't sell the team out in a second to better himself?

I'd love to see him in a Ferrari. Best driver in the best car. Yes, he'd be whining a lot, so what. He brought Renault two championships and would have done the same thing for McLaren if Ron had handled the situation better.

Little snippet for you Andreas to make you fuzzy :)

    From ITV:

Strong rumours out of Spain suggest that Alonso has a pre-contract agreement with Ferrari in his pocket for 2009, though the Scuderia's president Luca di Montezemolo appeared to scupper that last weekend by suggesting he already had the best drivers in the world in Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa.

And though no-one in the paddock, other than perhaps Massa and his manager Nicolas Todt, seriously believes Massa is a better driver than Alonso, confirmation of a new three-year contract means the Brazilian's position is publicly secure, at least for now.

Perhaps more interesting is Raikkonen's admission at Ferrari's end-of-season Mugello bash last week that he does not plan to be in F1 for the long haul, and that he is not yet thinking about extending his contract.

If Alonso is therefore Ferrari bound, in which ever seat, he needs a competitive place to hole up for a year while he goes about his business, and perhaps seeks to rebuild his reputation as a driver who can command the trust and respect of his team.

    agree 100%

Let´s face it, from the current crop, you can´t get a better line up than Raikkonen and Alonso.

And the fact that it is taking a long time to clinch a deal, means Alonso is not yet ready to sign for Renault in 2008 and beyond. I think there is a lot going on behind the scenes and that we shouldn´t be all that surprised when Alonso emerges at Ferrari, with Kovalainen in at McLaren and Massa at the wheel of a Renault, as teamleader, next to compartiot Nelsinho Piquet. Fisichella has done his last race in F1.

Hmm? Hamilton had a stellar performance this year, better than Alonso IMO, no one can deny that. I think in the long run, Hamilton will be the best driver in F1 !

Probably true. But he has to learn a few things until then. His performance in the last two races was abominable.

...+1...Ron ordered him to take an intensive training on thumb war...he learns both things, to "stand the pressure", and the the finger-eye sync...

I dont see any other way it would go...Alonso is going back to Renault, and I hope it´ll be for good, although the so-called RBR link was a good waiting seat, plenty of money, and a very challenging future team development a-la-Schumi, I dont know if people believe this guy will ever help a team reach the top...instead of dumping it and jumping right into the one on top, no strings attached...

and if there is anything true...he should be testing whatever thing he rides for next year...and he isnt, so there must be a problem somewhere...time contracted more likely...
