Quickie question; Is all hydraulic fluid the same? Do you need to specify a type or grade as you do with motor oil? I need 2.5 gallons for a 4 post car lift. I'm trying to get everything together ahead of the lifts arrival this weekend so I have no manual yet. Thanks
When i got mine it said i can use DextronII tranny fluid. I picked up like 10quarts cheap and it's been working fine.
Hydraulic oils contain No lubricants. Dextron II contains high pressure lubricants. Thus, if your Hydraulic System is connected to your drive system,,,,, you will need "Special" hydraulic oils like Dexron II.
American Custom lifts recommend: "All lifts provided by American Custom Lifts are designed to operate using standard 10-weight, non-foaming, non-detergent hydraulic oil or AW-32. This is available in virtually any automotive store." YMMV! BT
My scissors lift specifies Dexron III-Mercon ATF. You might just want to wait to see what your owner's manual says.
I better do that. I called the place and the lady asked some workman walking by and the answer was not a confidence builder. I'll wait for the manual. Thanks guys.
I thought about that. We have a Tractor Supply here. I love that place, smells good with all the horse stuff in there. Also saw it at Walmart in 5 gallon drums but I only need 2.5 gallons.
DD. Where is KITTY FISHSTICKS??? WHERE IS YOUR AVATAR????? On the hydraulic question. Can't you donwload instructions for your lift from the internet? Did you GOOGLE it? AND WHAT THE HECK DO YOU NEED A LIFT FOR??? Ok, I'm done. Dave
they have a "hidden page" i looked at back when I orgered, but didn't bookmark. Might as well wait as I'm getting it Friday (if shipping happens right). I NEED a lift because I'm tired of wallowing around on my back getting dirt and gravel-ettes in my hair and scalp.
+1 ...LOL from another horse stuff sniffer plus... installing it yourself or who did you find to do it?
Talking to me? Horse sniffer? Huh? I bought a Backyard Buddy. Isn't that name embarrassing? Anyway, as far as I can tell the only American made using American steel enclosed post lift left in the market. Was expensive, about $4200 plus shipping plus drip pans plus 4 moving dollies etc etc all told slightly over $5000. I am installing my self. whats nice is its sturdy enough it is not attached to the floor and in fact can be rolled around with a car on it! I didn't want to have to anchor to the floor for fear my guess at placement might not be what I later wanted. The rollers are expensive but they look to be the real deal. Was supposed to be in Friday, but will be at the AFB depot Monday; I will pick it up then. Edit: OK I found the horse stuff sniffer thing.

I'm confused. Went to Tractor Supply (yes it smelled good). They had several types of fluid. I immediately rejected the stuff that said "hydraulic-trans" that apparently is used in hydrostatic transmissions or something. that left 2 types. One type was "hydraulic oil". It was 20 weight. The other was "wear reducing hydraulic fluid" (or something like that), it was 30 weight. Thats the one I got. I haven't opened it yet, so if anyone knows its to thick please tell me. Thanks!!
American Custom Lifts also makes a collar type lift that does not show up on their web page (www.aclifts.com). It is called the ACS-07 Titan. Also american made etc... for about $3895 delivered (no casters) including drip trays, aluminum ramps, etc... Also, www.allamericanlifts.com offers another american made with american steel collar type that is a little less expensive still (around $3800 delivered until their price increase on March 1) but it is not powdercoated, only painted. A real nice guy there, Earl, can help you out if anyone else is considering ordering one. I looked at one of the Backyard Buddy lifts, and they are nice! They should get a different name though, it sounds really hokey. Glad you decided on a good one, I saw one of the cheapo lifts installed and it was not appealing.... BT
