Anyone here drink Alize...? i'm not a hard liquor drinker... Scotch, bourbon, whiskey - they're just not my thing... Hennessy is out of my league, too... It's been years since i've had Alize but i just bought a bottle of their Red Passion over the weekend and was pretty impressed... Am i the only sissy cognac drinker here...?

I dont have you on ignore. Sorry if I missed a question you asked somewhere, was not intentional.

And ironically, spirits happen to be one of my hobbies (not drinking lots of them, but knowing them).

Alize is a flavored cognac. I liken it to people who like wine coolers but want a bit more of a punch.

If you liked Alize, try Hypnotic. It is good as well.

Why is Hennessey out of your league? Just flavor wise? (Cognac can be a punch when you aren't used to it). If it is price, you can get Hennessey V.S. for not too much.

You can get a bottle of Courvoisier V.S. for $25 bucks. You can get a bottle of Kelt V.S.O.P for 45-50 bucks. These are all decent cognacs and good starters.

Scotch and soda? You are ruining the scotch!

And incidentally, a bit of Scotch trivia. When fixing Scotch and water, you never mix the Scotch with water. You put two-three cubes of ice in the glass, pour room temperature Scotch over the ice, wait 2-3 minutes, and start to enjoy.

No sweat... Hennessy tastes awful... Just like scotch - single or blended - or grappa or Galliano or Strega and on and on... i like Alize 'cause, like you said, it's fruit-flavored... It doesn't taste like gasoline and i can drink a bottle and be nice... The bottle i bought today was $23, so a $2-more bottle of Hennessy won't break me... It's the flavor that turns me away... One of my other favored drinks is Long Island Iced Teas... If made right, i can drink these until my vision doubles and they contain a bunch of stuff i would never drink straight (Tequila, Gin, Rum, Triple Sec) - except for Vodka... i'll do shots of Vodka until i throw up in Bruce's guest room... right, Bruce...? :) Anyway, as long as my Long Island tastes like lemonade, i'm good to go... But when it tastes like a concoction of unleaded, premium grade go juice, i'm up for being the designated driver...

Im with you on the flavor. To this day I dont care for Hennessey or most of the dark spirits. But I do appreciate them.

To each her/his own, but flavored cognacs are all the latest rage.

    That's 1-2 cubes too much...<g>

If you have to put water in Scotch, the best water for any single malt is the water from the same bog that the original peat came from.. a bit difficult for most of us!!

NNO: by the way, this is VERY similar to the discussion you and Gerald carried on in the last two FMLs on old vs new Ferraris. Great columns from both of you.

P.S. if you can't tell already, I am a dinosaur!

What others are there besides the ones mentioned...?

hehe, it is a matter of preference. Most of the tastings I've attended they suggest 2 cubes. You get the equivalent of one melting to add water, and the other chilling the drink.

I agree though. I got a bottle of Bowmore Islay single malt 30 years from a client as a thank you in August, and someone actually poured a glass of it (2-3oz) with coke! UGH!

I am unaware of any other flavored cognacs (none come to mind anyway). But I am sure they make them. There are far too many green/red/blue/yellow bottles on the shelves at the liquor store.

Remyre = fruit flavored Remi Martin (rosso in color!)...Hawaiian punch with a kick
Hpnotic = Cognac, tropical fruit, vodka (the predecessor to Alise)

Older versions - Cointreau / Grand Marnier, Chambord, Frangelico, Chartreuse

Wow...! Grand Marnier doesn't much seem like a 'flavored cognac'...! That stuff could knock a buzzard off of a **** wagon...!
