After reading about how difficult it is to get the air bled out of the 308 I decided to get an Airlift coolant tool.

I can get it to pull vacuum just fine... the problem is it doesn't hold it.

It slowly leaks back down to 0... probably takes a few minutes at least so I'm guessing I have some kind of leak somewhere.

But I sure haven't been able to find it. I ran a smoke tester through the system and couldn't see any leaks but that wasn't as pressurized I guess so maybe that was why.

I was just wondering if anyone had any success with the Airlift tool, since it's the first time I'm using it I don't know if it may be user error.

    Thanks

Been using one for at least 15 years. You are experiencing one of its benefits. Its telling you there is a leak. Fill the car with water and pressurize it. Smoke is a waste of time.

Are you happy that you have the right adaptor for the valve body when inserted into the expansion tank and it was tightened sufficiently to give a good seal?

I also sealed off the overflow hose nipple just in case that was a source of leakage.

If the tool is installed properly it is impossible to leak from there. The sealing point is below the overflow port.

Turned out to be the drain valve on the new radiator... I hadn't put tape around the threads. Holds vacuum great now.
