    Hey guys,

My car came with BMC air filters already installed. Someone recently told me that going back to stock OEM filters would actualy reduce some of the engine/exhaust noise, especially at lower rpm's....

I hadn't thought that there could be that much noise coming back out from the air intakes. Anyone have any opinions/experience on this?????

I installed BMC filters and did not notice any difference in engine or exhaust noise. I definitely notice a sucking sound now when I give it alot of gas which I did not hear with the stock filters.

I hear a sucking noise just about any time I put my foot on the gas while I have the windows down - that's about it.

I noticed a slight lower sound in idle and more low-end torque. Keep them -- they are good for the car and provide some increase in power.

In addition to the confirmed "sucking sounds" claimed by many, I'd love to believe the "increase in power" part. Have never seen a dyno that demonstrates increased HP/TQ on a Ferrari. Does such a thing exist? And, when I asked a performance guru if I should include BMC Filters when I install Hyperflow cats in my CS, he said "can't hurt" but won't make any real difference.

Never seen a dino on this. For that matter never been able to find a dino for even a stock f430. Increase in torque only makes sense though. Stock filters are really thick and restrict air flow. More air intake = more torque. Hence turbo and super chargers.

    Steve,

There is a noticeable difference with BMC filters over the OEM. There is increased air flow and a low speed hesitation I had is gone.

So, there is definitely less intake air friction.

Can't speak to changed exhaust sounds, however.

no personal experience in this on a ferrari but i can still tell you it will help performance, probably no extra power really but will help responsiveness because of increased airflow and in theory should increase "induction roar" but having never tried i don't know bout this but performance yes.

They were a gift from the BMC factory!

There is more to this coming, however.

Remember that BMC is the OEM to Ferrari's F1 program. There is a reason.

When you guys are talking about BMC filters, are you talking about just the rectangular filter inserts (image on the left below) that go into the existing airbox or are you discussing the Carbon Dynamic Airbox (image on the right, below) that replace the stock airboxes entirely?

Here's a link to more infomration:

Also, if you're looking for dyno results (none for Ferrari), they do list a bunch of runs with the CDA replacement systems here:

    Thanks,

    Frank

    Check out: http://www.bmcairfilter.com/

Looks like there's an on-line store for the US and Canada.

Yes ,the ones to which I am referring are the flat ones in the image to the left.

I believe that the CDA assembly will not allow the car to pass smog, but it does work big time!

    Martin,

Not many US outlets for BMC filters.

Their biggest market in the US is motorcycles according to them.

Looking at their website and dyno numbers, RWHP shows minimal gains. E.g., on RS4 or M3 BMW, just 4-6 hp. That seems hardly worth it to me given the expense. Anyone with these filters on have access to a dyno?

You guys are very lucky. We pay over $9 (£4.50) for a gallon over here in the UK :-(

I put some BMC filters, who the sucking noise.
When I reach 3000 rpm it starts making some noise, like a turbo, then during shifts there is a huge change is noise, like a sucking whooosh.
