Has anyone swapped out their Ferrari wheels with something else. I like the Asanti AF 161 in liquid carbon with brushed silver accents. I personally dont really like any Ferrari wheels. About $5k for a set for of 4...

I would persoally never change the wheels on my Ferrari. Whats interesting about that is I've never kept a set of stock wheels on any of my other 55 cars over the years. JMO

Well its not like the original wheels are likely to be made by Ferrari anyway. So if the Asanti rims came with a prancing horse center cap and were available as a 'Ferrari option' (for say $10k extra) people would buy them. A Ferrari logo and a crazy $ mark-up shouldn't have to make the difference. When I was at the Ferrari factory I saw wheels arriving there in cartons marked 'BBS'. We all know BBS is a German wheel manufacturer.

I normally like staying original. Changing from the original wheels can really upset the handling of any sportscar if you aren't really careful with the size, offset etc. The original wheels on the 458 were designed to work with the cars suspension geometry with alot of work at the Fiorano test track. Aftermarket wheels will often compromise the work done by the test drivers at the factory and therefore degrade the whole driving experience, plus most of the time they just look stupid. Concerning the wheels at the top of this post, I'd definitly have to say no. But I think a set of 599 gto wheels (in the appropriate size of course) would look awesome on the 458.

I personally love after market rims. Have had em on every single car I've EVER owned... EXCEPT on my Ferraris. I'm guessing Ferrari has an R&D dept (probably $$$$$$$$$$$$$ goes into) that has done some due diligence in finding what rims will maximize performance. Despite Asanti making gorgeous rims which u can customize, if i went into a ferrari showroom and saw 2 identical cars only difference being rims, I would buy the stock.

I usually fit after market wheels for all my cars including Ferraris. Most after market wheel companies will know which size of wheel and tire fit your car. If the fit(rolling diameter) is wrong, your on board computer will be screaming away. If you intend to track your car, i suggest you buy your after market wheel from a major tuning company. I had novitec rosso (ferrari tuner) wheels for my past ferraris. The 458 uses 20 inch and most after market brands will recommend either 21 or even 22 in wheels. Currently there are very few 21 inch performance tires. Therefore your options are rather limited. Wait for a couple of months and you will see more brands offering 21 in tires. I have been looking for after market wheels for my 458 and learn the above. Novitec Rosso will be launching it's 458 wheels at the Geneva motor show in the next couple of months. Hope the above info helps.

IMHO, I still haven't seen anything better looking than the optional sport wheels on the 458.

it's a very personal thing. the owner's desires, their goals with the new wheels etc. and yes, Ferrari, like any manufacturer. put lots of effort into finding things that will maximize performance. ie. wheels, brakes, engine internals, etc, etc. BUT, it is to maximize performance given within the costs, price points the car maker has to meet. they tell BBS, "hey make us wheels that will weigh X, given the amount Y that we will pay you for them". Stock wheels are far from the end all be all in maximizing outright performance, costs be damned. Unless you are talking about super exclusive super low volume cars, in which case 'stock' really isn't stock in the first place.

like you said, it's a matter of doing your homework, and what your overall goals are. even with tuner companies, performance isn't always the first priority. "YIKES" was my response often times when finding out the wgt of the wheels from so called 'performance minded' tuners and their 'custom' wheels. here's an idea, you could have BBS make you a custom set of these (GT/LMP1-2 race wheels) at stock sizes, or even just a little larger (prob $3k each, as 18X13 wide true magnesium race wheel runs about 2k each )... that way, you can have true wgt savings AND great looks:) if you are really really into 'customizing', go with the single lug wheels and the associated headaches that changing out the hubs, abs sensors, etc, will bring with it:) sure looks fantastic though!

Very valid point. I didn't take the cost cap into consideration. That being said, I'd go with a performance tuner production rim opposed to asanti as IMO they may look great but aren't too great performance wise.

Big difference between Asanti and BBS. Asanti are reserved for the DUB bling bling rollers. BBS make performance wheels. You cheapen your Ferrari with Asanti IMHO.

At least Asanti rims are forged, not all BBS rims are.

Don't mean to insult anyone, I know it is a personal choice and to each his/her own, but these rims just make it look like a pimp mobile. I love the wheels shown on the cars by Dave above. They look like the 599 gto wheels I was mentioning before.

And that's the problem with just about every aftermarket rim I've seen - bling, bling, bling...

What is a pimp mobile? "Aftermarket accessories" are for either performance or aesthetics, right? Before, everyone had a problem with too much chrome. Now it's any rim over the original rim size. That's like saying to much carbon fiber on the interior is too much. I will agree with you that it's person choice.

My opinion is if your are to change anything on the car it should add a performance advantage over the original Ferrari part. Wheels, exhaust etc.. There are a few wheels available for the 458 that that follow that theme. Look at a F1 car. They look for 1/100's of a second advantage. Look at the rims they run... Two very functional forms, mesh and spoke. The strongest design that can be very light weight. Just like the BBS in the previous shots. IF, and that's IF I ever where to change the wheel on my 458 it would be a BBS or an HRE (Oakley car) that saves up to 2 lbs a corner or more!

I think it comes down to the idea "less is more". The 458 is a brilliant example of form following function. Anything that doesn't add to the car takes away from it. It's like Bar Rafaeli wearing way too much makeup and big false eyelashes. She's beyond stunning just the was she is. You don't need to add anything. She looks best the way God made her.

any 458 is a pimp mobile with or without aftermarket rims, if your married or single rolling in a 458 i'm sure you guys are beating them of with a stick, not that you want those kind of girls. my 2 cents!

i don't like these gigantic examples either. just toooo big:) but yes, those BBS race wheels look very similar to the ones on 599 GTO. BUT they are EXACTLY like the kind that goes on the 599XX:) 'That car' is one of my all time fave looking cars..fave cars period..even though it isn't a 'real' car (amazing 3 rotor lump and Courage chassis underneath a wicked fiberglass body that actually 'works') the one and only Furai concept:) check out the engine sound clips on ytube. incredible toy indeed.
