If you want to keep them great, take them off and store them. Don't drive on them, buy new ones with other wheels if you want. You can ask Paul Walker why, Oh wait you can't, sad. https://www.thedrive.com/opinion/5189/the-truth-behind-what-caused-paul-walkers-fatal-crash
So I have had the new Bridgestone’s on for almost 500 miles and I cannot believe how well they perform. For a tire that does not have the latest tech, they sure seem to hook. Maybe it’s because they are enormous. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Clocked another 80 plus intoxicating miles on the empty backroads of NC this morning. Continue to be amazed by how solid this car is. Nearly 15 years old, and yet not a shake or rattle to speak of. The chassis is phenomenal and the steering feedback is perfect. I am building tons of confidence in the car and that is opening up new performance parameters. I continue to be shocked by how well the Bridgestone’s perform. For old tire tech, they work remarkably well. Must be because of the sheer enormity of the contact strip.
I see you have the OEM muffler..take them off for austerity and put some accufabs ( save you about 45 pounds) a Torrie tune and pulley and this car is wow!
I have an Accufab exhaust on my recent addition but it’s a love hate thing.....sound is epic, the resonance is super annoying, hard to find a comfortable cruising RPM.....I wouldn’t be surprised to go back to a mufflered system someday
I wanted to switch from the stock setup to the Borla, but never got around to it. Took a Tubi off a 355 Spider when I bought her, as it was way too boomy for me. Switched to an ANSA Sport setup Norwood installed, and it sounded great.
Your are bit hard my friend!, Just imagine Joe and I 15 years ago we thought we were driving SPACESHIPS. The bridgestones are great......Im keeping them at 33lbs all round and it seems to be the best in that zone to me. Im approaching 100,000 miles in my GT's combined. Other than my 66 Sting Ray convertible back in the day , the Ford GT is the only car today that people whip out cell phones and just go nuts. ITS 15 YEARS OLD ! Camillo nailed the design proportions , Fred G pushed through things that could never have been done today. Plus it is just BULLET PROOF to drive and service. No traction control, no buzzers, blinkers, rear cameras, cup holder, power seats, heated seats. It the ultimate modern old school car. Enjoy the ride...….. GTJOEY131P.S Ihave the Heffner pipes in1316, OMG THE SOUND IS LIKE NO OTHER!
Ok I’m thinking about some different wheels for the Bridgestones... any opinions about HRE wheels? They have a nice five spoke... Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Those are really nice. I was thinking the 305M or 505M... so many choices. Definitely keeping the OEM wheels and tires. Still have the battery sitting on a shelf! Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Hope I’m not sidetracking too much. Contacted HRE and they said most common wheel/tire sizes are: Fronts – 19x9.5; 265/35-19 Rears – 20x13; 345/30-20 Fronts – 20x10; 265/30-20 Rears – 21x13; 355/25-21 Any thoughts about these recommendations versus keeping stock size wheels with the aforementioned Bridgestones? Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Just my opinion, but I think changing the wheels to HRE’s is like touching up the Mona Lisa. It’s a solution in search of a problem that doesn’t exist. The factory design is simply too iconic at this point to try and improve on it. Again, just my two cents.
I personally love HREs on the GT. The 5 spoke ones in black look great. @Wheelb is a vendor here and they have had a number of versions to give you an idea. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Everyone of those options look really good to my eye. Maybe I should retract my previous comment. I wonder, though, whether they might introduce any performance compromises.
Well the factory Ford GT wheels were used on the one that went over 300mph in the Texas mile so the HREs probably can't be proven to outperform the stock ones.
I’m not doing this for an improvement per se, primarily I’m getting new tires and want to preserve the original wheels. The car has less than 2,000 miles. I would like to drive it some but don’t want the wheels messed up. Might be silly, but I am admittedly a little quirky! HRE said their most common sizes are Fronts – 19x9.5; 265/35-19 Rears – 20x13; 345/30-20 Fronts – 20x10; 265/30-20 Rears – 21x13; 355/25-21 No Bridgestones in those sizes but PS4S are available. It might be ok to go up to 19’s and 20’s, but I don’t want bigger. From a driving standpoint, is there a downside? Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
70 degrees in Charlotte today and was able to get the tires on the GT warmed up. My only disappointment was that it gets dark way too early this time of year. Image Unavailable, Please Login
How many miles do you have on it? I just exceeded 1,700 since April, which is crazy high compared to my other fun car.
Right around 4500ish, so that means I have around 700 miles on it about 9 months. Less than I would have liked.
