    Hello,

I have a mechanic who is a private mechanic but works on exotics, etc. is reputable, has a lot of exotic experience under his belt/all tools/etc.

I'm enlisting him to do the 30K service on my 360 and all fluids, as well as fix a right side door mechanism (door window doesn't open/close correctly). Also change brake pads, go over the car, etc.

What would be this labor at the dealer (approx) and also what would it be hour-wise/time-wise so I can estimate what to offer him?

The dealers in the Chicago area are charging $159 or $169 per hour.

Thanks -- I know there's a set price (range) for the 30K service and I was looking to see the hours/price of service and that would tell me what to offer this guy (or check against his offer). It would have to be at a good discount from the dealer or mainstream mechanics for it to make sense since I don't really get an invoice that I can use with the resale of the car. Which I don't really care about since I don't plan to sell but you get my drift?

An independent should be under $100 per hour. You can buy the parts yourself and have him perform the service. Not sure what's involved in the 30K mile service for the 360. Is it manual or F1?

This is the F1 version, belt change, seals, etc. Goal would be exactly what you are saying - send him the parts kit directly from Ricambi (or another vendor) and have him do the labor, etc.

Not where I live. Here it is $130 per hour, more or less depending on who you went to.

When I did my belts and fluids it ran about $2400-2500. I can get the drivers door panel off in about 10-15 minutes. Mechanism is few hundred. Expect a couple hours to get it out/in mod it. So what? $2-3 grand maybe?

What I'd expect, don't know your car or what the estimate is..

It would be 4,500-6,500 K at a full service certified dealer labor and parts. IMO You can save a bit, at least with the door stuff...and the brake pads, with a VERY smart indy; especially one that really likes working on F cars BUT...
They most likely wont have the Ferrari specific computer diagnostic tools to tell you how your car is doing for the major and make sure they get all the best stuff from Ricambi. The car is supposed to be serviced every year so there is a lot in there to do. If you post the list of what a 30K service is supposed to be we can talk about that a little too. My car has had 4 or 5 30K services on my watch and it only has 14.5 K miles!

EDIT: 30 K service is a mid 70's automotive term. Ferrari is different!!!!!!!

Is the goal to save money, get it done properly or employ a friend?

I like friends and I always like saving money.

That said, I only take my cars to factory authorized repair shops. This is based on decades of making mistakes.

Try $220 an hour in the SF Bay Area. That’s why you DIY when you can.

At the dealer yes, at an independent it is less.

    Thanks guys...

Good point -- with this I want to save some money, develop a relationship with an independent guy (since I don't plan to sell the car the invoices are not as critical to me as good work), and of course have it done properly.

The car would go in to a shop for F1 stuff/checks/etc. as needed but for oil change/fluid change/etc. it's not necessary?

My dealer charged me about $1,800 total fort all labor to do a complete belt and fluid service.

I was able to hang out with the tech while the work was done.

    It took about 7-8 hours.

    Here in Seattle area:

Ferrari dealer labor rate: $180.00 / hr.

Independent Mechanic Labor Rate (with a Leonardo computer) $155.00 / hr.

Just take note that if you order your own parts or bring in your own parts to an Indi mechanic and there are issues later you will have to deal with parts warranty issues yourself with the manufacturer as the indi mechanic is only responsible for labor warranty.
