Does anyone have this option in their rides? Please advise if they are really worth the extra cost to include as an option? Are there any visual difference physically/ I mean how can one tell if a car has been fitted with this option? Look forward to comments.
I have the option in my 458 Italia, it works very well. The lights turn as the car turns, pretty cool feature actually. Is it worth it, not sure, my car had the option when I purchased the car. I do not know if the lights look different than a standard setup? Other here may know the answer to that question.
I have it in my 458 and just spent $2K to get it in my forthcoming FF. I think it is a good feature that enables safer, faster driving at night. It should be standard as it is on all performance/luxury cars I know of.
Its the kind of feature you think isn't possibly worth it when you are looking at the order sheet... and then once you have it you can't imagine not having it. I think its worth it for the performance/ safety/ and also I think it would help just a little on resale because I think its the kind of thing people will be looking for.
I have it on a FF and a California and find it useful although I drive my cars daily. If you are the kind of Ferrari owner that will seldom drive, or never drive at night then save your money. Rick
Have it on my 2012 Spider and Boxster S. It works well but I do not drive at night very much. Too many deer, elk, bear, etc. My car came with it but could have passed. I do not drive fast at night. Can't tell any outward difference in appearance. Would get auto dimming mirrors + electric mirrors. have them. that I would order.
Btw- I am with you Phil- I don't like to drive much, and especially fast, at night. You just cannot see far enough ahead.
The auto dimming mirrors are quite helpful, IMO. The AFIS is nice to have going around curves. A lot of cars have those standard now (not Ferrari!) so I'm quite used to them.
I did not order them because I was told that I had to also order something else that I didn't want (lifter?). I have it on my Porsche and if you do a lot of night driving it is a good option. I do not plan on using my 458 as an everyday car so it was not worth the approximately $5k it was going to cost me for both options. My dealer also did not recommend it.
If you want the front lifter, AFS is required. However you can get AFS by itself. We swear by it. We live semi-rural, a lot of 1.5 lane twisty roads with wildlife....it works, gives a bit more confidence and visibility we have the adaptive lights on most of our cars, it works well. Like many things (parking sensors, Sat radio, Nav, rear camera....power windows, etc) you can live without, but once you have them, you won't want to. If you live in a grid (eg. LA, Vegas, Dallas) you may not need them.
I stand corrected. My dealer made a mistake and I can't add it as I am at status 40 . I do have the AFS on my Porsche's and am happy. This really should have been a standard feature on a $300K car. Oh well...
I have it on my Turbo S and 458, honestly can't tell much difference! It was cool to see the light beam turn with the wheel for the first two times...
Can't tell the difference between cars that do not have it and the 458? Maybe the other cars that do not have it have a wider beam angle anyway, but I have definitely found it useful at night on the twisties that are unlit (plenty of them in the UK). Sunny
Actually, on the 458 it almost feels like the beams are not focused far enough. I can't seem to see very far, not sure if that's due to the AFS or just misalignment.
Have had them on my BMWs and love them. My gti had xenon headlights and didnt have the feature and I missed it everytime I drove the gti at night. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
AFS is excellent. I highly recommend it if you drive the car much at night. I have it in both the 458 Spider and the FF.
I've got the AFS on mine. I love them. I live in the countryside and at night the are great tor picking up animals on he side of the road when turning corners.
I have AFS on my other cars and for the first time, ordered it on my F12. Once you have it, you like it. However, that said, at night, if you are driving fast enough that you "need" it, you are probably driving past your headlights anyways. If you are going slow enough to make use of them, you don't really need it. So you may try to rationalize "safety" as a reason to buy, but that's just a rationalization for overpaying for yet another option!
Completely useless, IMHO, as in my cars that have them, I am always looking ahead of them when turning. I never understood their utility unless you drive really slow and like to look at the road right in front of you, not where you want the car to go.
