I really think this issue is more related to my allergies than actually being acid reflux, but I wanted to get the fchat consensus. My sinus have been running pretty bad lately.

When I wake up in the morning I sometimes I dry heave. I have the feeling when I wake up, but it's usually not until after I have had some water or brushed my teeth that I dry heave.

It can also happen after I eat. But there is no correlation to what I eat that causes it. I quit eating breakfast first thing in the morning and put it off for a few hours and that seemed to help it for a while. I also think it happens when I'm stressed and also if I rush myself to eat.

I first noticed this when I was in 6th grade, but it stopped that same year and never happened again until recently.

It doesn't happen all the time and can go away for months. For instance, it happened yesterday (and I was pretty stressed/upset about something), but it hasn't happened today.

Do you get a metallic taste in your mouth in the morning?

Take anti-histamines for a couple days and see if it stops it, if so, then it's probably allergy related. If not, then acid reflux.

sounds more like acid reflux to me though. although I'm not too sure about the rhinorrhoea in this case.

I don't think I have a metallic taste in the morning. I don't pay attention sometimes. I do tend to "hauk"(sp?) muucus first thing in the morning.

    thanks.

I have nasal drip, caused by a particularly bad cold in 2002 that never stopped; (drips inside not outside), and acid reflux that is controlled by what I eat, and when I eat in the evening.

I can't say it's ever caused dry heaving, but I can say I could see the nasal drip causing it for some, as everybody's gag reflex is a little different.

At this point I'm chalking it up to a bit of allergies/sinus' and stress.

I've been really, really upset lately and thinking back, when my mindset was better I wasn't experiencing this.

    I'm officially declaring it stress.

I've been having a really difficult time getting over someone that was very special to me. I was fine for a couple of weeks and last night my mind started racing again.

Like butter, I immediately began dry heaving. Actually threw up something I had eaten a few hours before. That's the first time that happened.

So essentially I am a walking case study for digestive disorders and allergies. I do believe there is a very strong correlation between the two. I always had bad allergies as a kid and then as a teenager I got struck with Ulcerative Colitis which resulted in having my large intestine removed. My life has been a living hell ever since. So after being completely fed up with my allergies I decided to go for shots. I give myself allergy shots for about 1 year, and then I am guaranteed 7-13 years without incident. I am starting to feel better already. So, I do suffer from acid reflux which does effect my breathing. Start out with some Gaviscon Liquid before bed and maybe some prilosec. Again do this before you go to bed and hopefully you will see a difference in the morning.

    Thanks for you input.

I've been taking the shots for a while now. It's been a tremendous help with my allergies.

    Thanks Kara. :)

    No problem.

That's an EXCELLENT idea, one that probably would have benefitted me a few years back. I was just too darn stubborn to go. I still have my wisdom teeth, too. :)

I always have sinus issues but if you're heaving I suppose it could be stress. I know I've thrown up because of stress. Do you wheeze? Maybe you have asthma. Sometimes when I wheeze I cough so much I gag myself.

Set up the appointment yesterday. I go next Tuesday. A recommendation from my co-worker.

Nah, I don't wheeze. At one time I thought I did have asthma because sometimes I had a hard time inhaling. I realized that was due to allergies as well.

Even though I'm still stressing, I'm not stressing like I was and the gagging has virtually stopped.

    Thanks Elle.

First therapy session is tomorrow night. Really looking forward to it. The first session is charged the standard hour, but she sets it for 1.5 hours. She feels the first meeting that extra 30 minutes makes all the difference.
