I bought a new Chinese compressor for just under$400 including shipping and it works great! There are places you can send the factory ones out for rebuild for as little as $250.
I'll look out for a rebuild service. It's hard for me to trust Chinese products, given the track record I have with their parts. Anyone have a recommended shop? If there's no parts avail to DIY, I'll send it out.
I just sent my compressor to Austin Rebuilders. Brian Crall recommended them for a rebuild and that was good enough for me. A couple of other shops were mentioned. Ranshu has some rebuilds in stock.
I bought it off eBay. It was actually $367 shipped. I then bought 3 cans of 134a. It was all under $400
Given how failure prone these factory compressors are, I figured I’d take a chance on the Chinese compressor. The one in my car had already been rebuilt twice. I still have it and my next move will be rebuilding it again if the Chinese one fails for some reason.
They are basicly a GM compressor. Delphi unit, I think from a Cadillac. Mega cheap to have rebuilt or replaced.
Image Unavailable, Please Login This is the Delphi compressor that was in my 2002 360. Apparently replaced the original Diavia sometime before 2012.
I did a search for that part number and only get numbers on ebay, pretty much. They look Chinese, though they say "Ferrari AC Compressor", etc. LOL
Right. I saw those as well. I sent my compressor to Austin Rebuilders for a rebuild based on Rifledriver's referral.
I don't want even more down time so will probably buy one then send this one out to be redone. Sounds like these things fail often, so at least I'll be ready. To each their own. I've rebuilt power steering pumps, compressors, etc for a fraction of what shops charge. I'm a DIY guy with a lift, air tools, and all the other goodies, so this kinda IS how I spend my time. I was hoping to find someone who has done their own so i could ask for any tips or tricks but exotics owners tend to take their cars to shops, so info is limited.
I sent my compressor to Austin Rebuilders several years ago. Excellent customer service, fast turn around and reasonable cost.
Austin Rebuilders has not been able to find a rebuildable compressor for my 360 Delphi #6581290. Apparently, my core is not a candidate for a rebuild. Has Anyone had any luck finding a compressor? There are China knockoffs around as well as rebuilt eBay compressors so maybe rolling the dice on one of those is the only option?
I am also close to doing that if Austin Rebuilders cannot find a rebuildable core. Scottrx7tt who did you order yours from? Several eBay compressors from different vendors show photos of the same exact compressor. Same nicks and dings.
This is the one I bought https://www.ebay.com/itm/155863458085 It came in like 4 days. the only issue I had was the threaded holes on the back of the new compressor that the screws for the rear bracket attaches to isn’t as deep as the factory compressor. You will have to get shorter screws. Everything else was identical to the factory compressor. BTW. In case you do your own vacuum and recharge like I did. Auto zone loans out a gauge set and vacuum pump, you just have to put a deposit down, which is refundable after you return the equipment You will need to buy a can tap. I used 2.5 cans of 134a. It’s usually much cheaper to buy the 134a from Walmart.
I did not buy a new condenser. The only time I’d buy a new condenser is if the compressor had locked up. The system still had refrigerant in it before I removed the compressor. I WAS going to replace the receiver\dryer but it didn’t show up in time, so I chanced it since I only had the system open for a short time.
I bought a Chinese compressor from Cool Air Parts which costs a little more because they add a two-year warranty. But, the holes for the rear bracket are not tapped and are only half as deep as the OEM threaded holes. Did you have to tap your mounting holes and if so, did you drill them down to the proper depth? About used A/C compressors. Rare as hen's teeth it seems and the ones I found were silly expensive.
The holes in mine were tapped but were not the same depth as the originals. I just got shorter bolts to put fit the new hole depth. No issues as of yet.
