A few years ago I went to a go cart place in atlanta and have no idea what it was called or where it is but it was really cool and I would like to take a friend there. It had like four different tracks, a "grand prix" track and a sort of drag race track and two others. It's not the andretti speed lab which I have also been to. Anybody got any ideas? Also what is your favorite go cart track in the area?

    Thanks for the help,
    David

I am not sure but I only know of Andretti's and Malibu but I think Malibu close a little while ago, but not sure of that.

I really don't go karting, I have only been to Andretti's once and it was cool.
Good luck finding the place you are looking for.

That would have been Malibu Speedzone on Busbee Parkway in Kennesaw. Unfortunately it closed over a year ago and the land will soon be used to extend Big Shanty Road across I-75.

I think I can help. Yes, the Malibu Grand Prix in Kennesaw is closed. The Malibu off I-85N, between Jimmy Carter and Indian Trail is open. They have kiddie carts and REAL go-karts that go I think 30mph. You will need to get their go-kart license.

The other place is Andretti Speedlabs off Alphartta HWY. Take 400N to exit 8 Mansell Rd and hook a left at the light, make right at ALpharetta Hwy and you will see it on the left. I used to be good with them, they have new owners and management now. They just revamped the indoor golf carts, from what people have told me its better and even more fun. Again, you will need their go-kart license but since its indoors, rain or shine you can race.

Glad I stumbled across this thread. I'm in town from Southern CA, and have been wondering what to do at night. Gonna try to check out the Andretti place, since it's only a few exits away from my hotel.

Jay........If you goto Andretti you may want to call first. I have been there with some clubs before (monthly get togethers, mtgs..etc), and they have had other events book the larger track.

There is also a Fudruckers in the place so you could eat first.

Well, Ferrari/Maserati/Aston Martin of Atlanta is just a little further up the Alpharetta Highway, but I don't know how late they're open.

There is also an outdoor go-cart track just down the road from Andretti's at a place called StarTimes. It is a pretty neat place with go-carts, minature golf, movie theater, video game room, comedy night club, bar and restaurant. My kids love the place!

I assume the karts aren't as hardcore as Andretti's though? Back in CA, the karts that are at minature golf places are pretty lame. If you don't need to sign a waiver, they aren't fun.... :)

Quick update - had a blast at Andretti's. Just did one race - karts seemed pretty good, and a good track layout (a bit longer than the one back home)....

The only problem is that the darn lap timer on my car didn't work right! It showed one of the laps as 2:23.174 - so 3 of my laps didn't register. *sigh* So of the laps that were properly timed, my fastest was 0:34.388....

Gonna see if I can run by FoA tomorrow night....

Jay.......trick question here...... any marks on your upper back area after the ride? For some reason the seats dug into my upper back when i went, looked like someone smacked with a bat a few times.

Haven't looked, but I am a tiny bit sore near my shoulderblades.... so it wouldn't surprise me. The seat definately wasn't a good proper fit. But despite any potential bruises, it was still worth it.

The one thing that I didn't care for as much was that there seemed to be a little bit too much grip on the track. The place near me (www.dromo1.com) seems to have more polished concrete, reducing the grip levels a bit, putting you on the limits more. You're always just about to lose the rear end on heavy braking, and can't get on the gas as early as you can at Andretti's. It is MUCH easier to spin if you're not careful. I would guess that it's obviously done because Andretti's is a bit more mainstream than the other place, so you get more people that don't understand the physics of weight transfer. :)

Stopped in at FoA this morning. What a great dealership. Everyone was very friendly, and had a great variety of cars. Was nice to see 2 550 Barchettas (one in a beautiful blue - I'd only seen red before), as well as a red 430 Spider (only seen black before).

Spent quite a bit of time chatting with the guy in parts (great guy, but forgot his name), but unfortunately didn't get any insider tours of the place. Maybe I'll be luckier next time...... :)
