It's a lot quieter over at the California section than it is in here

So it was interesting to see a discussion regarding a 458 compared to the California being made.

    The discussion is here.....

Does anyone here think a California is "surprisingly fast" compared to a 458

Not to be taken literally, in my opinion. Not really worth serious discussion. Sorry not to be enthusiastic about it :D

I have driven both. The Cali is very quick, though a bit less than the 458. In this catagory of performance cars, giving away a half a second or so will take a long time to make up in distance, so the testimony of the driver is understandable. The bigger difference between the cars is in feel. The 458 is an out and out sport car that just wants to run. The California is a high performance sports GT car whose performance is always available but it can be driven comfortably and moderately.

    Having both I fully confirm!

Cali can be used for daily driving, 458 is just for fun (IMO).

    This makes sense to me.

If neither car is driven near its limit (80 mph on surface streets/highways) a California and 458 may appear similar.

Makes sense. I sure would like to get reliable stats that show how many miles on average are driven by owners of each.

I drive my 458 every day I am in California. To me, this car is both a daily driver, i.e. in automatic, a very very old lady could drive it, and when in manual and no traffic , I am glad I have a very good laser/radar detector, because whenever I look, I find myself doing close to 90 mph.. Best

I had a Ferrari California for a week my buddy left it at my house while on vacation and said drive it as you please.I think its more of a ladies car for shopping it handles boatish and doesn't feel as connected like the 458 its alot like the Mercedes Benz SL-AMG which I've had a couple.I'm not dogging it,I just wouldn't own one.

it's not about the speed. it's about the experience and they just aren't the same.

I've owned both. The Cali looks and feels huge. It's still too expensive and gets too much attention to park comfortably. It isn't a ladies' car, at least as I understand that term. It's fast, and as GT cars go, it isn't particularly "civilized." My 2010 Cali wasn't as smooth shifting as my 2013 458 in traffic. Nor was it as user friendly as a 911 or a Boxster (I traded a 911 for the Cali and sold the Cali and bought a Boxster while waiting for my 458). Bottom line, I wasn't comfortable with the Cali as a daily driver.

Not sure that these "this or that" threads settle much. Comes down to personal preference. But the California is a beast. I'm sure I don't have the talent to get the most out of it. The 458 is a true sports car, and the stats are better in every way, but my preference for the 458 isn't based on raw performance. Let's call it romance.

Like most have said, a Ferrari is not about speed, is all about the "feels" and "romance"

People who want speed can buy a modified Nissan GTR with 2000 hp for half the price of a 458.

A Ford Pinto is surprisingly fast when compared to a Mavrick.
