Not sure if this has been posted or not, I have yet to see the magazine myself yet but its the talk of other boards out there. 0-60 in 3.2 seconds and 1/4 mile in 11.4 seconds. Keep in mind this is with the Tiptronic tranny.

Isn't Porsche coming out with its version of VW's DSG (double clutch) gearbox, that will make it even faster. Might not have the passion like the italian makes, but its one heck of a car. Looking forward to reading the article to hear more about it that just stats.

Im sorry but Im not buying it. That would put the 0-60 under 3 seconds for a manual car which is unbelievable. And probably irresponsible knowing how many buyers will have a car they can't even begin to handle.

From what I understand Porsche has stated that the TIP 0-60 will be faster than the manual.

Been beat to death on the porsche forums, the Tip is actually faster than the manual now, there is a technical respone from Porsche in regards to this matter, detailing why. I'll try and hunt down the link for it.

Well, the auto is probably faster 0-60, but for in-gear acceleration, the manual will still be faster.

And unless you're drag racing, in-gear acceleration is all that matters.

The Magazine is the June issue of Motor Trend. The automatic (Tiptronic) is quicker with Sport Chrono than the manual. The times were taken with a GPS system that may have not been 100% accurate. The Manual will definately not be as quick. Lets wait until we see a full US Road Test. Also the DSG will not be available until 2009.

I read in one of the magazines (i think it was automobile?..but I could be mistaken) that the reasoning behind why the Tip was faster than the 6MT is because of the variable turbine geometry in the new turbos. The 5 Spd Tip tranny is carried over from the 996 turbo... but the tip tranny can better optimize the turbine geometry for a torque curve that allows for this improvement in performance.

basically the computer in the tiptronic syncs with the computer in the vtg turbos, right?
