I started this restoration near 10 years ago. To bare metal twice. Complete mechanical. Nearly every nut and bolt. Maybe some under dash I haven't touched. I ran into a snag on the project called work and family. I have been in contact with Brett at Gran Turismo for years. I explained my situation and he graciously took the project on. Twenty-Eight cataloged tubs, a bare chassis, engine, transmission and differential to Alliston, Ontario. Thought I would share some pics of what Brett and his crew have accomplished. Some of you that have been around for a while may recognize the car. This is very exciting it has been a long road. Rick

No doubt! Glad I acquired my bits while many were still available. That's exactly why I farmed the re-assembly out. They can do more work in a week than I could in a year of open weekends. Plus these guys have done at least a half dozen of these cars and are doing a bang up job.

man, that all looks awesome; a question: on the door speaker grills, black, were these your originals? I am looking for some if you have a source.
    Thanks

Thank you. The original door speaker grills were warped and kicked a few times. I gave a ridiculous amount for a pair of NOS from Tony Rondazzo sp? on Ebay a few years back. He has always got some unusual parts listed. His stuff has always been very good. I have purchased a few items from him.

    Good day Klaus,

Please keep us updated on how you make out duplicating the speaker grills, as I would also be interested in a pair... mine are also warped/twisted.

@ ricar116/Rick ... Your car is looking fantastic! I love the red interior!

    Cheers,

    Sam

I used the Nuvolari manifolds and the ANSA center sections and tail pipes. Everything looks very aligned on the hangers, not by accident. We had to modify all of the pipes on the center section to make everything look as it should. Was it the manifolds, center sections, or chassis?....probably some of all. I think that people expect everything to bolt up as on an assembly line production car and when they dont they get frustrated, the charm of hand built automobiles. Don't the headers look b%#ch dropping through the frame!

That looks great! I wonder if it looked that good on the day it was born? I would love to do that to my 400i someday - especially the suspension bits.

I must say I'm a bit disappointed in the level of workmanship here.

In the second exhaust photo the right hand mounting rubber isn't as tight as the left hand one.

I think you should start the entire restoration all over again but do it right this time !!!

Tsk, tsk, Russell! If you had read the workshop manual, you would know that the RH mounting rubber is supposed to be looser than the left side because of the rotational forces exerted by the engine's internals. It is a subtle difference and many manufacturers take the easy shortcut and make them the same tightness but, trust me, the difference in NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness) reduction is nothing short of amazing! ;)

PS This car is looking very nice, to say the least! I hope that you get it on the road soon and that is runs as well as it looks!
