I absolutely love my '91 Diablo. I upgraded the brakes with a big brake kit from Brembo which requires 18" wheels. It totally transformed the car, as others have stated the brakes are a week point on the early cars. I wanted an early car for its rawness, lightness, RWD, cleanest body lines, etc. I have serval sports cars including a F355, 458 Italia, turbo Porsches, Lotus, etc. The Diablo sound (de-catted, and Butoni exhaust) is absolutely insane. The Diablo is magic at high speeds and loves high speed sweeping curves. It is an event to take it out. Neither a Diablo nor a TR are daily drivers, I feel the Diablo is more special and therefore the better choice. A Diablo isn't a "2nd car" it's a "3rd car". If I could only have one sports car it would be either my F355 or 458, but once I had that covered then the Diablo becomes your "ultimate" car. It is truly a supercar where as I consider the F355, and 458 to be sports cars. Finally, Diablos are excellent value for money and have the potential to be worth more in the future. Good luck!

I've had it 3 years, been very reliable. The early cars are very simple. No power steering, no ABS, no traction control, no AWD system, no front lifter. The motor and transmission is bullet proof, and there's not much else to it. I replaced a sensor and reset the ECU myself, was very easy. Here are 2 pictures comparing a later Diablo and a TR, plus one more pic of my car. The Diablo is impossibly low, flat, and wide. It's so exotic!

O man! Stunning! That must have been a fun day running these two cars! Thanks for the information about the Diablo. It's going to be a tough decision, but with a few cars on the radar, just waiting for all info on them and then get a PPI on the ones of interest.

Just looking over your pics, when did you take the 4 lights out of the air intakes on the front of the car and put in the single lights? The 2 singles look awesome vs 4! Also, did you do the conversion to the headlights? They look sweet too!

The car with the pop up headlights is my '91 the car with exposed headlights is a later Diablo, not mine.

This is a good point that doesn't get much discussion. Very few Diablos will see more than 1,000 miles per year on a consistent basis. I have averaged 750 miles per year over 4 years of ownership. Currently, it IS my 2nd car...and as a result I've been saving for a couple of years for a car that is more versatile so the Diablo can be the 3rd car. The pipe dream is that a guy with my meager income can get a more versatile car that would be almost as special as the Diablo.

    Come on you guys!

I put 72k miles on my Diablo VT Roadster and drove it everyday and in heavy Florida rain. Use the fine China and silverware everyday.....give the guests paper plates lol

My Testarossa has 62k miles on it and counting...as I drove it to work today. The Murcielago Roadster is at the Lamborghini dealership getting a clutch done then it will be up for sale. I'm going to a LP640 Roadster so I can do a stick shift conversion and enjoy it everyday.

    I hate that egear crap!

I know of several kevlar fiber composite discs installed - one as early as 2011 that has been inspected twice during subsequent services. The most recent inspection was a few months ago and the disc had minimal wear - photo attached from when it was pulled . The owner swears by them. Image Unavailable, Please Login

The OEM differential carriers are a 2 piece welded design that commonly cracks at the welds. The fortunate one's find the damage during a major before it trashes the gears!

How is the flywheel holding up? Does it need resurfacing at all, for preventative reasons?

Fine - one of the benefits of a kevlar composite disc is it's not abrasive

Is the overall mass less? If so, is the throttle response more edgy?

No - the flywheel and pressure plate make up significantly more weight than the clutch disc.

Good day all! Well, some sad news here. The 91 Diablo is was seeking couldn't produce very much history on the car and the owner was very hard to get a hold of to answer questions and couldn't tell me some basic info on maintenance that was just done. I was concerned about the cam chain tensioner and if it was upgraded to the manual vs factory hydraulic and he couldn't tell me, so I am moving on. If anyone can chime in on that issue and let me know if I am being too picky? For a pretty good budget I would think I can get a car that's more sorted. Also, the 94 TR I was looking at has sold.

    So time to move on........

why move on? if the tensioner is not replaced then this is a reason to lower the price - if this then would be ok for you?
not every owner knows much technical stuff from his car as the most here in this boxer/TR/M section

I did bring it up, but he said there are others interested in the car! I took that as a polite no.

I posted this in the Testarossa prices thread.

    Yeah.....can't get one.

    06 Murcielago Roadster stick 298k

    09 Murcielago LP640 Roadster stick 465k

Glad you're enjoying a rare breed. I would like to get one but at that price range, you're well into high Aventador Roadster territory. I tried working with Lamborghini Sarasota to do a stick conversion but with months of preliminary research, the Lamborghini factory told the dealer that they would not provide technical support. A good shop can do it but I can't be bothered with open ended projects.

Right now, my main inquiry is if there is any internal sensors in the Aventador transmission. Can they service it or is like a 30k - 40k exchange only? So far, Lamborghini Orlando says non serviceable. I'm waiting on my home dealership for an answer. The service manger Jordan was in Italy for Urus SUV training.

Then $12k engine out clutch changes on the Murcielago at 25k miles doesn't seem so bad lol

.....and everyone thinks a Testarossa is costly to maintain [emoji6]

Diablo over Testarossa or 512 anyday, even though I love both. The Diablo is a monster.

Hello everyone! Finally Finally Finally!!! Looks like I'll be dancing with the devil instead of riding a prancing horse. Thank to everyone on this thread that gave their input. It was a very hard decision, as everyone likely knows.

After 10 years of saving and searching, I finally got a Diablo. 1992 #698. Beautiful inside and out, low miles, just stunning. I can hardly wait for spring so I can actually take her out on the road.

    Cheers, Todd.

    Congratulations!

You will soooooo enjoy this car. It's like a Testarossa on steroids. It makes a great daily driver and it's very reliable as well. I put 72k miles on my Diablo VT Roadster.

....and groceries fit just fine ;) lol
