The Mercedes board clearly stated in 2016 that they would consider an F1 exit if they failed to dominate the sport. Wolff genius was to deliver year after year with the massive budget he required from Mercedes. He perfectly knew that a single year of bad results could lead to Mercedes leaving the sport. Kudos to him, he maximised the huge investment Mercedes made ten years ago.
Well then. Looks like Max is proven right. If it wasn't for that hilarious Mercedes F up it would be a dominant win over Bottas for Russell.
I never seen such mistakes... The question is who wouldn’t be WC in Mer? Giovannazi? Stroll? Latifi? Kvyat? Albion? Maybe Ocon as well? So 6/22 that I can think of Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I wish William wasn’t suspended to get a good “neutral” point of view on this Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Latifi wouldn't be champion regardless of teammate. Those named above, it will only depend on their teammate. If they get a worse teammate, they'll be champion.
There is nothing embarrassing about a driver doing his job and winning championships as a team. Quite the contrary. However, what is embarrassing is being provided a car with which any competent driver could win and acting like you're God's gift to racing, constantly whining and undermining your team on the radio, calling unnecessary attention to yourself in the press, etc. Some of us have known this for years (including LH himself, I suspect). Others realized it for the first time today. The remaining few will never see.
He hasn’t whined that much this past few years. Unlike my main man Grosjean So French of him- I’m proud of him Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Of course the haters have a field day with the Hamilton "my tires are gone" radio messages, but I'm guessing he's doing that deliberatly. Kind of influencing and widening your own pit options, and sandbagging Red Bull listening in. More than once has a good assessment of his tires' condition land him a win (either by staying out when his team called him in, or by choosing a different compound, going earlier).
I wouldn't be surprised. Same with football players taking a dive when lightly hit. It is part of soccer strategy and often more advantageous to get the foul than to play on, but a lot of people just point and say "look at that sissy Neymar rolling over like a crybaby, in [enter token sport] they take a hit to the jaw and just continue ?!?!?!?!?". Makes people feel good about themselves I guess, but shows a fundamental lack of understanding of winning
^ good point. even last yrs mercedes drove thru the pack. something smells rotten in the state of denmark.
The only way Latifi could be WDC is for every other car to be penalized by 200 HP or 200 added pounds.
A fluke basically. But RB, Ferrari and the rest need to step up their game significantly. Some seriously flawed management going on there. Their latest design should at least be on par with last year's winning design if their basic design decisions have been correct.
True, it's quite embarrassing that these supposed top teams are still trailing on LAST year's Mercedes
Toto just said Russell won't replace Bottas next year. Russell is a pure Mercedes product. He won brilliantly F3 and F2 on his first attempt. He replaced pilot number one in atrocious seating conditions and beat the second pilot regularly. What does he have to do to earn the place? Don’t tell me Hamilton likes competition anymore, please !
Exactly so! And on the last part, Lewis, who speaks publicly about welcoming ''competitive teammates'' (and lectures others teams about giving their drivers more competitive teammates!) once again gets exposed as being a fake.
Imagine that Russell made the Gp instead of Lewis, finished second ahead of Bottas but beaten by Max. What we would not have heard about the absence of Hamilton causing this defeat !
