Congrat with your new place Paul. Is it heated? Stop monkey around with your boxer until you finish with mine.
Outside not flood. Gearbox oil was clean and gold, no water in oil or fuel tanks etc. Original paint, tires etc and all documents, tools, books and so on.
It's funny, You don't really know what gets put into a resto until it's torn down like that. I always felt my Boxer was a very clean car, But when you look at these pics and the depth you have to get into, WOW, what a job this will be. I am very interested in this thread. I hope you update often. Thank you

Tensioner bearings are seized and the outside looks less than appealing but inside looks great and thats what matters. It'll all look new. I have very hard time to understand how people can let these cars go into this condition. By chance there are some guys buying them to restore when possible. Can't wait to see result. I will follow this thread like all the others you did. Thanks for sharing it.
Come by again anytime. I have one of those M engines you saw in my office now, my wife said no to the living room lol.
then you may built a second , but larger living room for storage and presentation not only the M engine
[QUOTE=Newman; Engine out. Looking forward to making it look new again. The engine will start coming apart today. Amazing how light & fragile the engine framework/lattice appears...that the structural integrity is there to support not only the gross weight of engine/tranny, but also the torque, vibration(s) and directional change vector forces. Looking forward to more, Jack
newman, then you may ask on x-mas eve for a complete building for storage and presentation and when the answer would be as expected NO then you go to smaller building and again smaller and you will end with the living room as you wanted to do first good luck
Almost ready for the body shop. Glass and a bunch of small things, coolant pipes etc then it can go. Clam shells are ready to go as well. Hardware needs to be sorted, cataloged and prepped for the plater. While thats happening Ill continue to take the engine apart and go through the gearbox. Congrats on the new shop. And on having a new car to extend the life on, and make pretty again. At first I thought this was the other in depth resto thread. Is that car going to Cavallino next month? I wasn't really planning on going. But I will.
Wonderful, another one going through Paul's capable hands. COngrats on the new shop, I'm sure the room was needed!
Thank you, its a relief to have the space finally. Still need to "decorate" but busy playing catch up after the move.
Timing case with twin drives like the V8's (except 348). Testarossa drives from the crank directly so less parts and 4 bearings eliminated from the system and less places to leak oil from. Check out how close the crank is to the block and piston. Still room to add 8-10mm of stroke for a little more umph if one wanted! Welded diff of course. Ring end gap orientation sucks. Every piston was different in this respect which surprised me. Its a critical step. Bearings are typical. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Anyone want to guess why theres a polished band in all 12 cylinders about an inch down the bores? Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
